Hey guys,
I recently submitted my application to a top 10 LAC.
Another applicant from my same high school ( very small, only around 150 students ) also applied ED at the same college.
How will colleges view this? Do they view our applications side by side or something like that? My stats are quite higher than his.
According to my D’s college counselor, you will be compared to each other.
Thanks for the reply @PepperJo
You didn’t mention in your post that you are an international student needing significant financial aid. That lowers the odds that both students will be accepted. (It helps no one, yourself included, if you leave that vital piece of information out of the post).
Good question. I wonder the same thing. What if 2 or more apply ED. Do you all think they will cap how many they take? Do full pay students have the edge?
No college has a min/max/quota per HS. If the college wants both, they’ll take both. If they want neither, they take neither.
It depends on the college. Need-blind colleges, no. Colleges with limited FA? Maybe. But that’s assuming that the FP applicant checks all the boxes for what the college wants.
At least for domestic applicants, I’ve heard admissions officers from different colleges say that there is no quota per HS and that applicants are compared to a wider pool of applicants from throughout their region.
You may be compared, but don’t assume you’d get the tip due to higher stats. It isn’t always the case in holistic admissions.
Several students from my daughters very small rigorous high school each got into Harvard, Colby, Tufts and other NESCAC among others when applying ED. My D and a classmate both got into one of the same Claremont College. If you have the stats and have what they are looking for to fit into the community I do not see it as a problem. And it is not always about the highest grades and test scores, the admissions folks are looking for fit in the school and in the class.
