I'm not exactly sure what a 'hook' is, and want clarification.

I've been told being part of a minority group and having parents who haven't attend college are hooks. (My mother is an MD, but stopped practicing when I was born, and she attended university abroad - is it better to discard that info?)

With regards to race, I'm immensely confused as to what I should write. I'm "technically" white as per the criteria, but I don't look white.

A ‘hook’ is something that is part of your history (i.e. you cannot influence) but will make you stand out in admissions. Hooks are something like underrepresented minority, first generation to go to college, low income, disadvantage background, etc.

Your mom did attend college, so you cannot claim you are first generation. Just put ‘white’ as your race or decline to state.

I agree - I’ve noted that my mother graduated from university.
However, with the respect to race, I’m still indecisive. I figure I’d rather expound on the farrago that is my background… I’m part Turkish, Algerian, Kenyan, and Iranian. Clearly I’m not of WASP pedigree. I will select White >> Middle East, but should I select any other option?
