I took the SAT in February and I got my scores, which I think are pretty good for my first time. But since I’m going to take it over, what is a good score to reach for? I want to apply to Clemson University and Winthrop University if that helps.
1200 would be good for those schools.
@TomSrOfBoston Thanks. I got higher than that, but would you know about ACT scores? I just took it last Tuesday.
Google ‘(school) common data set’ to see if they have one. The Common Data Set tells you everything about what stats admitted freshmen at that school have (section C).
If you’re out of state for Clemson, you will want 1350 (M+CR) or 30 ACT to be safer
Thank you @bodangles and @pardullet . I looked at the Common Data Set and my scores match up with the majority. I couldn’t help but notice that they don’t really consider application essays, which does answer my first thread’s question.
Clemson looks at GPA , rank , test scores and course rigor primarily, ECs have very little impact in general admissions. Clemson has become fairly competitive for admissions, especially for the more competitive majors like nursing and engineering . If you are looking to receive merit aid or admission to Calhoun Honors , you will need at least a 32 on ACT and at least 1350 on SAT to even be competitive for admission . Currently to receive their lowest merit award, you need at least a 27 on ACT or 1200 on the SAT and be ranked in the top 10% of your class .
Just to add to your information, OP. Our experience with Clemson:
kid 1: for engineering, had a 33 ACT, was offered provisional acceptance early, was just at the top 10% mark at our officially non-ranking school, offered 10K scholarship, did not get Calhoun honors
kid 2: for accounting, SAT combined of 2000, was offered provisional acceptance early, same top 10% standing, offered 10K scholarship, But he was offered Calhoun honors
The major seems to make all the difference. Even though both kids were offered provisional acceptance early, the honors acceptances seem to confirm that certain majors have a much higher threshold for honors and, it could follow, for admission to those majors.
Thank you @carolinamom2boys and @PokeyJoe
I’m going to major in Human resource management and prepharmacy.
