what is an ideal SAT score to get needed for Binghamton with my grades:

I have AP World, US, Anatomy, Bio and Calc, College Span. in my belt
i have a ton of extra curriculars and over 100 hours of volunteer service at the hospital. . .
I also have an 89.3 average . . .
I figure my essay will be really good (in progress)
but what would i need to get (SAT) based on this ( i know my average is low)

if your in state and applying to just the arts and science school..i'd guess about a 1280-1300 range...of course better doesn't hurt..it's hard to say...alot of my friends go there now...and a coupel scored as low as 1220,1200....but they also were the valedictorian and the other had a 97 avg...so its tough to say...id guess a 1300 would be a safe bet

agree with amyank, 1300 would be adequate.

and that isn't to say anything less would doom you...if you score 1240, 1250 range...i mean, i dont think your chnaces drop drastically...but if you go 1100's or just a 1200-1220 area with your lower gpa...its a tough shot nowadays at binghamton

I got in to Harpur and I had a 1280 on my SAT and a 29 on the ACT (which is about a 1310). So I would say that as long as you're breaking 1200 with really awesome everything else, or you have a 1350+ and maybe not as good everything else you stand a chance.

But like amyank said, it's a tough shot nowadays. And it's only going to be MORE competitive this upcoming year.

depends on the school which you are applying into.

harpur would be easier for you to get into.
it'll be hard for you to get into SOM though because of your GPA.
your GPA is sort of a match for watson (engineering)
not sure about nursing or teaching school though.

Bing likes to see at least 700+ in at least one section. goodluck :]

every school would like to see a 700+...more often than not students enter bing without that mark.

rarg!!!!
I'm doing EA and I think the SAT i took in October I could confidently say its in the mid 1200's or maybe a bit higher. 1300?!?!?!! Are you serious? Freaking competitive, huh? I think I might stumble onto my 2nd choice Stony Brook, which I'm still not sure if i could get into as of yet. I'm not applying to SOM or anything specific, btw.
Thanks to all

i had a 1310 sat and applied a week after the deadline at bing...to the SOM...the school gave away who knows how many spots by that point..its rolling admissions...and they didnt log my materials until a month after the deadline...i got waitlisted...so if i applied on time i wouldve gotten in no problem...so reg bing...idk, i mean, a mid 1200 with a strong gpa will def do it...and last year, the class of 2012 was the toughest admissions cycle yet...best admissions stats ever...and this year should be a slight drop off..so its not as tough as people want to makje it out to be

if you expect binghamton admissions to get easier this year i think you are in for a disappointment. for this fall's entering class, they were over enrolled -- ie. more students accepted offers of admissions than they expected. i would think it logical to assume that admissions would therefore become more selective this year.
add to that the fact that the economy will probably result in even more applications (even if the overall number of hs grads declines slightly -- which i'm not even sure it does) as well as the likelihood of a further increase in their yield as people can't afford privates, and i really think people have to expect admissions to be harder, not easier this year.

i don't think that's false what your saying...i just don't think it will be any harder than it was last year...the number of hs grads projects to drop off

regarding a decrease in number of grads- i've heard conflicting things -- while people talked about a "peak" last year, i've heard it doesn't really drop off much for at least a few years.
and it would probably take a large drop in total grads (which i don't think there is) to off set the higher percentage of grads who may be looking at sunys due to the economy.
but only time will tell for sure -- we'll see in april what the outcomes are!

My brother had 1850/2400, ~80.0 GPA, and little to no ECs and got in (and went)...

Yes it's uber competitive now because of the amount of kids applying and because of the economy, but let's face it... It's not exactly a tier 1 school.

In response to iamhere, I have talked with people at Binghamton and I know for a fact that approximately 420 students were over-enrolled at Binghamton this year. There are atleast a few hundred students still tripled at Bing because they did not expect so many people to accept their offers.

420! I'd heard they were over enrolled and many were tripled (but this is the first time I've heard an actual number. I would have to think this will have a serious effect on admissions for next year as they expect their yield to remain high (and likely -- i think -- go even higher with the state of the economy).

Just curious -- are the people you spoke with in admissions? Do they say anything about what it'll look like for students applying now?

The middle 50th percentile for admitted students last year, for GPA and SAT, were: 90-95 and 1200-1375 (CR&M). Since your GPA puts you barely into the bottom 25th percentile your chances would be better if your SATs are closer to 1370 than 1300.

From everything we are hearing in this part of NYS (mid-Hudson Valley) this is going to be a very tough year for those seeking admission to the top-rated SUNYs. Over-enrollment at places like Binghamton and New Paltz may well make admission to those places even dicier than in 2008.

Can't reveal who I spoke with, but I know that over 400 kids over-enrolled and accepted their offer at Bing this year. Usually Bing knows that accepting 100-200 and over enrolling them is normal. Its why bing always has around 150 triples or students living in lounges at the beginning of the year. But this year was different alot more students accepted their offer and as Binghamton gets more competitive its only going to get worse.

omg 1370?!?!?!?!
i'll pass, damn wow i didn't know my average was so lackluster. . .
i'll apply anyway but just my luck! :(
n i got my SAT scres back today and its a 1240
590 - critical reading
660- math

a 2400 should do the job
