I am becoming a junior this fall; I am pretty good at math but it has little to do with the field of my future profession (probably linguistics or at least biochemistry) therefore I shouldn’t be too rigor about it. I am thinking of taking AP Calc so I will be better prepared for the SAT but this is going to be my fifth AP. Is it better to take AP Statistics for less pressure, or is AP Calc more worthy in terms of preparation?
P.S. I am interested in both subjects anyway
There is no calculus on the SAT.
There are a few surprising applications of calculus and abstract algebra in linguistics, but statistics might be more useful if you decide to do any sort of experimentation or field work in linguistics or biochem. However, you will probably end up having to take both calculus and statistics anyway.
If you wanted the AP that is more relevant to your major, I would probably say AP Stats(?).
Agreed. Stats will be more useful for linguistics. Both will be needed for biochem. I’d probably suggest calc next year and stats as a senior.
@MITer94 Yes, I will definitely take both of them, I am just deciding what to leave for the senior year. I should have specified: what is better to take as a junior. Thank you for you answer, it was helpful!
