What is Brown, in your opinion?

In my op, it’s

=> a mini-version of US’s elite research universities.

Reasons:
Brown is

 1. A small, liberal artsy school.
 2. Has the smallest endowment of an Ivy League
 3. Has brilliant students
 4. Does top research proportionate to its size (math, sciences, humanities).

*although humanities is a little bit better

=> It’s also perhaps the only place for less tense people.

In fact, no other school is like ours.

Only Dartmouth is about Brown’s size, but does much less scientific research
Dartmouth has more graduate schools than Brown, but it insists on naming itself a college, which I can’t understand.

Princeton, which is twice the size of Brown, and has too big an endowment for comparison, nonetheless has a similar style.

Dartmouth is named Dartmouth College because of a historical case when the State of NH was attempting to take over the college. Alum Daniel Webster argued for its private, smaller status and one setting up precedent for top private schools across the country.

Also while Dartmouth has one more professional school than Brown (Tuck) it has fewer graduate programs.

Finally, Dartmouth is completely focused on its undergrads. This means things like no graduate TAs teaching any classes, a very high endowment per student, and the highest spending on advising and grants of any Ivy (COHE). Being names a college is a great strength in my opinion - it shows where the focus is.

Brown, Dartmouth, and Princeton are all pretty similar in their undergrad focus, which in my opinion is much more important for actual undergrads.

Brown’s a school I go to, where most of my friends are, and where I feel at home. Different feelings for different peeps.
