What is Echols?

I've heard that word so many times, but still have no idea what it is. I searched it, but the descriptions seem vague. Anyone interested in enlightening me?

:)

It’s basically UVa’s honors program. (for arts and sciences, not engineering, etc)

It offers special opportunities to those undergraduates in the College of Arts & Sciences who are its most avid learners. These opportunities include

*freedom from the usual area requirements in the College,
*priority registration times in selecting courses,
*access to the Echols Interdisciplinary Major,
*a shared first year living experience,
*a select cadre of faculty advisers, and
*participation in the Echols news and information electronic network.

So in one were to major in Biology, and then Neuroscience, would this program be available to them?

yes
