Is there a general sense of terminology, or is this something that varies from one school to another? What terms would you look for if you’re interested in comfortable housing for an LGBT student who is gender fluid/non-binary/doesn’t identify with the gender binary?
This seems to be the same as gender-neutral housing, which permits students of any biological sex, gender identity or expression to live together in college residence halls. This might typically depend upon mutual consent.
I’ve seen gender-inclusive and gender-neutral used.
Be sure to look deeply into policies. For instance, Syracuse allows gender-inclusive housing but only for returning students. Freshman do not have that option as far as I can tell. I don’t know if they honor students’ identified gender preference as roommate. There are no single gender dorms or floors, and most (not all) dorms have gender neutral bathrooms.
Bard College at Simon’s Rock allows students to designate the preferred gender of their roommate, and in single-gender dorms, which dorm they prefer.
