What is generally considered a typical Asian?

I don't understand the concept of the stereotype...
It seems to me that every traits of asian people have been included in this concept of stereotype; please be aware of the stereotype's possible implication. I think stereotype is a social construction used by whites against asian people, so whites can define themselves as non-asian, or non-asian like. It also assists the assimilation of lesser white like minority by creating hatred towards the "inferior" Asian qualities.

I define myself as a stereotypical Chinese american, I come to state when i was 14, got a 30 in ACT, 750ish in SAT subjects, taking tons of ap classes, and involved in chess club and various science clubs. I love academic subjects such as math and history. I don't understand why some people like history while hating math... I'm going to major in philosophy in college, but without knowing math, how can you possibly tackle into the field of analytical philosophies??? how can you possibly understand Lebniz's philosophies without knowing calculus??? How can you perceive the most current version of cosmology without comprehending some basic quantum mechanics??? AND HOW DARE THOSE PEOPLE DESPISE MATHEMATICS BECAUSE THEY LOVE HISTORY!!!

Asian stereotype is way overrated. It is a mere social construction used to fuel the concept of American identity based on white superiority. What is american identity but a bunch of contradictions and stupidity! The logic goes like this: Asians are nerds, we are not nerds, we define ourselves as not asian nerds. Nerds are idiots, therefore, Asians are idiots. Furthermore, since asians are inferior, therefore, they need to learn the white way!!! such as partying and studying liberal arts.
Bull crap, jeez, SCIENCES AND MATHEMATICS are all westerner's innovation. Confucius stressed on the study of ancient text, which is in itself a form of liberal art, and chinese call engineers and technicians mean people. It is a well documented historical fact! and i don't understand how this concept of Confucius says:" You must be an engineer, otherwise, you get your ass spanked by crazy asian parent." comes from.

Lastly, in terms of physical abilities... i must confess that a lot of asian LOOKS LIKE a lot weaker than white kids. But guess what, chinese use their bodies and bloods ass kicked americans armed by tanks, flame throwers, and planes during the korean war. Mental ability and courage is much more important than mere physical appearance.

Julius Ceaser used to say:" It is not these well-fed long-haired men that I fear, but the pale and the hungry-looking. " I say:"It is not these 300 pounds foot jocks that i fear, but those tiny and nerdy looking." :)

hahahaha

As reluctant as my Asian self is to post this, I think you're crazy. In my opinion, you're taking the stereotypes too literally and radically. I rather enjoy the stereotypes, because they're on the whole so true. :] At least at my school... :D

Asians shouldn't be steroetyped in a negative light...

They should be viewed how they are: hard-working, has foresight, intelligent... etc. Why should they get the unfair disadvantage? it doesn't even make any sense. College should be like, hey, another asian, I bet he's automatically smart

Stereotypes are damaging, regardless of its attitude. In essence, stereotype is a passive form of institutional racism.
Good stereotypes damage those Asians who are poor and without those stereotypes. For instance, we, asians, may exclude those incompetent asians just because they don't fit white man's stereotype. No way, as asians, we should unite together against the tide of stupidity launched by imperialistic white idiots.
Asian Americans, UNITE!
lol

and interesting enough, it is WHITE people whom defined ASIAN AMERICANS. They never allow asians to speak for themselves, and when asians are allowed, asians are either too timid to question the validity of the proposition, or fear of loosing asian american's identity. Asian american identity goes like this: Asian Immigrants come to this country, they educate their kids to conform to the standardized norms of the society. Their kids got lost because kids are viewed as others, then, in desperations, those kids, asian american 2nd generation, find it convenient to conform to the white man's definition of asian men/ women. If, suggest, those asian american don't conform, then they will identify themselves as their ancestors, which will add alienation and suffering.

a typical asian will probably have some asian ancestry...

^ maybe...possibly.

I'm not a typical Asian... SATII's were 660-720, though I take all honors/AP, I am horrible at math. I regret taking Calc BC. My EC's deal with culture, yeah, but most of my time is devoted to jazz music (a slight deviation from classical? maybe I'm just kidding myself)

And I'm really into the humanities...so much more than mathematics. But the thing is, I want to major in bio. :/

Typical Asian = small frame, Harry Potter glasses with tape in the middle, sunken eyes from either studying or playing DOTA w/o sleeping, can speak in binary form, uses calculus while doing sports, can't say the letters "F" or "R," has a tendency to read japanese comics, and get 200CR 200W 99999999Math scores on the SAT. Oh, and they take that useless Math IC test just to prove that they can get an 800 on it.

Oh, and I'm Korean, so please, don't be a hater...

Oh, and pharmakeus01, just chill man. It's not as if stereotypes are going to ruin Asian lives...

pretty much...im the token asian guy in the group... but whatevv, it's cool, we're all friends....yaddamean?

sometimes being asian can be such an issue, but u gotta realize that liife is too short to be living up to other peoples standards. eff it. live it up.

white friends are usually alot more welcoming and accepting too, ive noticed. i dunno whatever im not making any sense.
