What is more important your high school or your GPA/class rank?

I was thinking about changing my school. The current public high school I attend is very competitive. I do not think I will fall in the top of the class. I also have to drive very far to reach this school. There is a charter school closer to my house and I was thinking of going there.I think it is a good school-- they got a silver medal from US News best schools rating. As far as I can see it is much less competitive than my current high school. They count college classes as AP classes, they also count online courses from accredited universities in the same way. My school does not do any of this (although I know many schools do). By taking college/online classes, I could definitely raise my GPA and place in the top of the class. It sounds great, but I am concerned that colleges would not look at this seriously. So what matters more the high school you attend or your class rank/GPA?

What matters is that you take advantage of the opportunities that are available to you.
Regardless of college admissions, if I had the opportunity to go to a better school for free I’d do it (assuming the environment wasn’t unnecessarily cutthroat and ridiculous - if you like what you’re learning and you’re doing reasonably well I’d stay). Colleges will consider the rigor of your school in admissions.
