My school operates on a 100 point scale. I have had all grades over 95 except 2 92s freshmen year. Would colleges view those grades as A-s or would they just take my cumulative GPA out of 100? I am worried because I am applying to top schools and my school is not that great (easy to get pretty good grades).
Hm…well, it depends on the school. Throughout high school and college, it was always that x0% - x2% was an x-minus, x3% - x6% was x, and x7% to x9% was an x-plus (if that makes any sense). So if the colleges calculate grades like that, then yes, you may get a couple of A-minuses.
On a traditional grading system, those 2 92’s would be A-s, but 95-96 is an A and 97-100 is an A+.
Most colleges have their own GPA formula to normalize all applicants.
@philpsych @yonceonhismouth Thanks for the clarification. On my transcript my cumulative GPA says ~98. But it sounds like you guys think the colleges would recalculate to As and A-s? If they do recalculate, would a class rank of 1 remedy that? (I am only so concerned cause my school is only average if not below average)
I can’t say for sure, because each college has a different method. But with a class rank of 1, it is clear you are excelling academically at your school.
