Hi, and sorry if this is an FAQ. Just curious about what the “promote” button on users’ profiles (next to the number of “likes” and “helpfuls” they’ve received) is. Everyone seems to have 0 and I can’t tell how to “give” someone a promote (does that even make sense)? Thanks in advance
I was wondering about this as well.

I was wondering about this, about the various membership levels, and the point of “Points.” I have no clue how the game portion of this works, or who cares?
Do we get a replay, or a “double points” period if we get enough points quickly enough? Where do we insert the quarters? Is there a “Tilt”?
What do we have to do to get a free DVD of ‘Tommy’ and an autographed picture of Ann Margaret?
@ItsJustSchool as far as I know, points are just a quick way to check the “legitimacy” of a poster - but I could be wrong.
Yes, the points are a way to recognize contributions.
As for the “Promote” feature, it is akin to the old “recommended threads” feature on the old site. If you find content that you feel others should be made aware of, you can promote it. There is a “Best Of…” link on the top left of the page (should be right above the “Find a College” section) where promoted content is housed (based on the number of actual promotions). That said, I’m not entirely sure how it works, as the current list of “Best Of” content is rather suspect.
@Lenitus That makes sense now; thanks! For future reference, how do I promote someone’s post or comment?
I just realized that registered members are not able to see the “promote” link on each post. I should have remembered that. At the present, only the moderating team and administrators are able to promote content for the Best Of area (though I don’t believe it is even being used). I believe the primary concern was the likely ‘gaming of the system’ that could occur if members could artificially vote up one another’s posts. However, perhaps that “promote” link could be made visible to everyone and used to suggest content to highlight…and then we could pick and choose from that list.
Lenitus…don’t want a return of the “greenies”!
No, this relates to promoting posts, not members. The “greenies” are gone forever and ever.
What are the greenies?
In short, it was a user reputation system. You could vote up other members, they’d collect points, and their status would increase (by means of having more green boxes next to their name). Some loved it, but most hated it. After a few months we killed the greenies.
That makes sense; it sounded like a kind of inside joke at first, haha.
