<p>Basically they take what the average grad from a college would have made over a career, and subtract from that what a high school grad at the 75th percentile would have made over a career.</p>
<p>I personally don’t like these comparisons because a college degree is what you make of it.</p>
<p>My cynical take on this is that it’s a lovely gimmick used to convince students to borrow far more for their college educations than they can afford.</p>
<p>Once you factor in the interest payments on your student loan debt, that return on investment drops significantly.</p>
<p>It is not stratified by major at each school, which makes it less useful when comparing schools.</p>
