What is stagecraft (high school class) like?

I have a study hall next semester but I was wondering if I should drop it to take stagecraft. I still have to get a full art credit, so it would help towards my hs graduation requirements. (Either that or taking art classes during the summer.)

I heard it is for very technical people. As I’m considering majoring in engineering, I think it would be a great way for me to find technical experience in a non-traditional way. Does anyone have any experience taking this class?

P.S. I know this seems like a sudden interest, but due to the math club not being able to provide accommodations for the AMC test, I am considering not doing it anymore. Going to meetings would be a waste of time and I never would be able to win any achievements because of that.

At the school DS attended, it attracts kids who are interested in everything from art to building things to robotics/cs to theater itself. It’s a pretty interesting intersection of all those things. The school’s theater program is known to be excellent, and the sets are always mentioned in reviews. It’s a critical part of the theater experience. If it interests you, give it a try!

Thank you @gardenstategal!! I’ll definitely look into it then.

What kinds of things did they actually do in the class, do you know?

At my school, the theatre tech (stagecraft) class learns about different wood working machines, techniques, materials, then actually builds the sets for drama productions.

Ok, that sounds perfect for me! I think I’ll go talk to my guidance counselor to see about dropping study hall. @Shanban1607

@equationlover , they built the sets for the theater production each term (and some were amazing! ) and did the lights and sound for the show. It always seemed like a fascinating intersection of the imaginative and the practical.
