My son will be moving to GMU from out of state this fall for school. What is supplied with the dorms? Also, are small refrigerators for rent at GMU? Any other suggestions that we need to consider bringing to the dorm in addition to bedding and personal items? Are there sinks in the dorm rooms for freshmen? Where's the best place to buy dorm items near GMU? Thanks for all your tips!

S is completing freshman year at Mason - we are also OOS. I am very impressed with the condition of the dorms. He lives in President’s Park, which is freshman only housing. There are a series of three story buildings in a circle and it is a great way to meet people. His room has wall to wall (looks brand new) carpeting, a/c, vertical blinds, bed, desk, hutch, closet with drawers and dresser which all seem brand new also. He tells me that the newer dorms are even nicer. Contact me if you have any other questions.

They do rent out refrigerators and microwaves.

When I was there freshman year, I bought pretty much everything that was in my room. Just look at your son’s room and get everything because Mason provides you with just a bed, desk, and closet. Bring air fresheners, your son will be glad.

Most freshmen dorms share a common bathroom, so there are sinks but it is for the whole floor.

President’s Park is the nicer dorms for freshman, Commonwealth is older and not the greatest.

In terms of niceness, the commons has not been renovated yet like the Park (as michone is talking about). I think, but don’t quote me on this, that they will be doing that this summer.

Anyway, at orientation they will give you a list of items to bring such as a microwave and refrigerator and what not to bring. Make sure your son asks his roommate what he is bringing as well. Mine brought the microwave, and I brought the fridge.

Is Lincoln Hall one of the newer or newly renovated dorms?

Lincoln Hall is in President’s Park. S lived there this past year. Yes, it is renovated and in very good condition.
