What is the Alcohol policy on campus and....

how is it enforced?

Tell your son not to stand around outside his dorm with a red plastic cup.

The FSU PD will arrest any underage students caught drinking alcohol. The PD also patrols the dorms and campus, obviously.

The FSU PD can also go off campus...

How far off-campus are we talking here?

I'm not interested in getting drunk anyways, but I never did understand American drinking ages. It just makes drinking seem like a forbidden fruit and then it seems more attractive to them the minute they see something alcoholic.

But I'll stop, that's a debate for another day.

Anyways, how far. What if its a area with mixed students? They'll arrest anyone? And will they systematically go through a large group? What about those that run.

And what about wrong-place-wrong-time people. Will they get in trouble?

yeah im pretty curious too...i assume there are frat parties with drinking would they get broken up too? or is it just a kinda situation where if your bothering people and they recive complaints?

I don't want to encourage underage drinking but I would say the key to your safety is moderation, discretion and never drink and drive. The Student Government Association provides the Night Nole Bus from 10pm to 3am Tuesday thru Saturday so that you can get safely from the clubs back to your dorm.

Well heres how it generally goes campus police generally doesn't intervene or break up frat parties they just patrol the perimeter of the parties and as soon as they see johnny dumbluck standing outside with a red plastic cup they'll ask for i.d., as soon as they confirm he's underage he gets a notice to appeal for court, from there your made to go perform community service.
In the dorms the situation is similar if an RA suspects something is going on they have a right to call campus police to search your room if alcohol is found you get written up and put on hall probation and also have to appear in court.
In terms of an off campus party, tallahassee police is like another police force in the U.S. if you want to see what happens its pretty similar to the movie superbad, they arrive, everyone runs, the owner of the house is basically screwed for having a keg in his backyard....

In terms of drinking on campus, i've seen many people get away with it, just don't be stupid or act stupid although i have learned that campus police is really lax especially during game days were there looking out more for safety than petty drinkers, moreso in the stadium.

lol during game days cops will basically look away all the time.

Not saying I'm bad bad, been dry for months now(have not drank one drop of alcohol since I have been at FSU). I'm not ashamed to say I drank over the summer but I did it safely. I drank in moderation and always took a cab or the train home(god I miss NYC so much).

Hopefully you all know this safety tip. Never put your cup down and come back to drink from it later. Someone could have slipped something into the cup so they could harm you.

cyberMOM

^ Especially the female students...but it applies to everyone.

Cybermon, did you say you from the islands? :)

Don't worry...Be Happy ;)

lol :) Will do.

FSU is not a dry campus.. they sell alcohol in the bowling ally at the union and they are building a Chili's on campus that will have happy hour. But if you are underage drinking on campus... you will get caught!

That Chili's will never be finished.

To add a real life, true story example to illustrate what FSU/UF says happens at off campus parties 'everyone runs and owner of house is screwed'...

UF son of college friends was visiting FSU friends at an off campus party (about 4 years ago). Cops arrived, everyone ran, except said friends' son. He wasn't drinking, so he didn't think he needed to run. However, he forgot he had a fake I.D..... Many bucks later, his record was purged. And he is now a practicing pharmacist!

Lots of lessons to be learned from that example!

From the FSU PD website ( fsu.edu | Police Department Website ):

(Main FSU PD website: fsu.edu | Police Department Website )

*FSU police officers are sworn officers with full powers of arrest provided to them by Florida State Statutes Police officers in the uniformed division are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week throughout the year providing essential services. They respond to calls for law enforcement and general service. In addition, officers work the campus social events, home athletic games, and participate in crime prevention activities such as the Adopt-A-C.O.P.P and Rape Aggression Defense programs.

The campus is patrolled by a variety of methods including marked and unmarked patrol vehicles, bicycle patrol, and foot patrol.

University Police officers have jurisdiction on property the university owns leases or otherwise controls and includes city streets that run through and are adjacent to the Campus Property. In addition they have jurisdiction 500 feet from any University Property.*

Be careful... ;)
