I am a transfer student, and I was looking into some apartments but have decided to stay in a dorm for this year to meet people and stuff. I heard some of the dorms at UMD are really old and small, I really don’t care about the space that much, but its best if there is at least a bathroom in the dorm than on the floor where you have to share with everyone.
My best bet is oakland hall but I want to see if theres any better halls.

Prince Frederick is the newest and nicest dorm.
But Oakland is better, since you get your own shared bathroom (2 rooms share each bathroom). My daughter has been in the very same room in Oakland for 3 years.
@MDdad2012 I can see why, do you know if it was hard for your daughter to get into oakland hall? I can only imagine that spaces fill up fast. I have never lived in a dorm at mud or anywhere else before so I woundlt know
It was a bit easier for her sophomore year. She was in Ellicott in freshman year. Her roommate had a low number in the lottery. The other adjoining room all latched onto the roommate with the low number. UMD has a point system based on credits. The lottery that factors the points in. Being in Gemstone allows students to live on campus all 4 years. My daughter did admit she would have preferred to live off campus in her last year, but her roommate wanted to live on campus.
@MDdad2012 Oh thats sweet, when I transfer this fall I will be a sophomore. Housing is limited for transfer students but I don’t think i have a bad chance. I will probably have around 31-35 credits by the time I apply for housing, and oakland hall seems to be my best choice right now. Would you say I have somewhat of a decent chance?

@LustinJack12 - Did you already submit your housing request per
http://reslife.umd.edu/roomselection/offcampus/
All of the students currently living on campus (excluding seniors) are selecting their dorms for next year and will receive their assignments later this month.
@soofdad I have not unfortunately, I am a transfer student so I will not receive my decision until Mid-APril which is like maybe 2 weeks or in the worst case June/July. But when I do I will visit your link, Thank you
Just submitted my housing and dining agreement for oakland hall, prince fredrick hall, or any suites or on campus apartments
do you know if there is any obligation if we fill out the application, but decide later that we dont want the room?
@md2016woo if you fill out the application and you find some other housing before they inform you in mid-summer then you can cancel the housing agreement, if they contact you and tell you that they found a dorm for you then you have to live in that dorm
@LustinJack12 thanks foe the info! another question… do you know if they assign you to a dorm close to your major’s building or is it just random on a space-available basis?
@md2016woo its on space-available basis, it would be best to start the app right now just in case something goes wrong
@LustinJack12 Thanks!
no problem

I doubt any transfer will receive on campus housing.
@bedcrumbs I called today and they told me I was 57 out of 500 students on the waitlist and they were gonna start cancellation for other people housing in the summer. I had a friend who was in the 100s on the wait list last year who managed t get housing. Are you living on campus or?
