What is the best time/day to take lab?

Hi everybody, I just wanted to see what is the optimal time to take labs (for those who have taken them)? I already know not Monday because that's when a lot of exams usually are. I have o chem lab and physics lab next semester.

I like to take my labs at night if possible. Next semester I have one from 7-10 pm and one at noon.

Ditto on night labs, you don’t feel as rushed during lab and you have all day before the lab to prep. Plus since labs are like 3-4 hours having them during the night really opens up ur day for work, other classes or just relaxing

I like to take my labs in the morning, but that’s because I feel like I’m falling asleep if I take any class past 5pm.

It’s also nice to finish your day earlier, in my opinion.

As for day of the week, I would suggest a Thursday or a Tuesday (but I’ve had people tell me that Thursdays and Fridays are the best days for labs/recitations)

Post bump …

I love when I have labs early in the evening like from 3-6. Cause then you have the rest of your evening free. Also during those times I find that I’m most focused and the time passes by really fast. But its all up to how your schedule is.

Why shouldn’t labs be on Mondays?

this is entirely school dependent. In fact most of my exams were definitely not on mondays.

It depends on you and when the labs are offered. When I was a freshman, I had my labs in the afternoon/early evening (like 2-6pm) because I didn’t really have any other commitments. I could have a class in the morning, eat lunch, and then go to lab, or I could sleep in and then go to lab.

I started working in the evenings, so then I preferred to have lab in the late morning/early afternoon (11-3) because then I didn’t have to get up early and I could still go to work later.

Then when I had a couple of jobs, I found that lab in the morning was easiest (8-noon) because then I could eat lunch and have the rest of the day to schedule in my other responsibilities.

I always preferred Tues/Thurs labs, because if I wanted to have a longer weekend, I wouldn’t have to worry about going to lab, since it was always mandatory.

So it all depends on what your schedule is like. If you’re a morning person, try to pick the earlier times. This can also let you get lab out of the way and have the rest of your day to do other things. I would also leave lab whenever I was finished with the experiment, so getting it over with early in the morning meant I could leave to do other things. If you’re a night person, try to pick the later times. You can still do stuff before lab or work on the assignments before they are due. You may also have to schedule around other classes that you need to take, which sometimes dictated which lab times I could choose.

So it’ll all depend. There is not one right time that is going to work for everyone at every school. Also, I don’t know about how it works at your school, but there was no one day when most of my exams were. And if I HAD to pick one, it certainly wouldn’t be Monday (but then again, I preferred Tues/Thurs classes).

Definitely don’t do it on a Saturday morning. That was the worst. The TA running the lab hated it too lol.

Yeah, I think my least painful lab outside of engineering was my chemistry lab which was at 7:00 at night. I would go with evening, personally.

i like taking afternoon or night because then you have time to prep for lab and the practicums.

The one time I didn’t like was a 6-9 pm one Thursday night. Mainly because I had class 10-12, 230-345, and 6-9 which was annoying, and the lab was boring.

I personally prefer morning or afternoon, afternoon is much easier to fit into my schedule, and I have meetings in the evenings that I would have to skip. But that’s just me, some of my friends like evening labs. Monday has been the least common day for me to have evening exams, but not by much. (Excluding Friday, Saturday, Sunday evening)
