Yeah I just wanted to know. UV is a good D1 soccer school and I want to, and I can ability wise, play at the highest college level. I have not been recruited, so now I am left to walk on. What are my chances?

Fairly low to be honest, you must be pretty ****ing good if you think you have a shot. But if you really are that good, try out, email the coach and tell him you intend to try out so he has a heads up, and if you have recruiting material (videos, etc.), send him those too. Worst case, try out for the club soccer team. I hear its not as time consuming but they are very competitive, I think my friend said 7 out of 140ish people made it this year and they do have tournaments in FL and AZ. Also, I don’t know if you’ve watched any UVA Varsity soccer, but if you know Ari Dimas, he’s started the past two years after not making it as a walk on his 1st year. He chose to play club his first year and then tried out and it worked out well for him, I think he had the game winner in the national semifinal last year.

Hope that helps, good luck

Do you have to be enrolled at the school in order to tryout? Or can i just see how the tryout goes, then decide whether or not to attend?

You would have to be enrolled. Your best bet would be to get recruited, and to do that you need to email the coach, send him a resume, highlight videos, and get him to come watch you play live before you can even consider playing here.

I would love to hear how this turns out! My son is trying for “recruited walk on” D III, and he often started for his team which was ranked maybe 100 nationally, maybe 15 in N.Cal when he started trying as Junior last year. Team has to be ranked high to get to the best tournaments where recruiting often happens, althouh you could try to be a guest player. His team made it to fall Surf Cup that year. Only the CDA kids seemed to get recruited for D1, and that was from N.Cal. N.Cal teams might be second only to S. Cal and a few other regions.

This would be an increadible feat. If he does make the team, I’ll be sure to watch some of his games :)

I’ve never seen an sports team chance thread before.

UVAorBust, you might want to wait till you get in to say that… don’t jinx yourself now

yeah i’ll let you know what happens, but obviously many things need to align in order for this to work out. I need to get in to the school first of all. haha. But I feel like my chances would shoot through the roof if I already knew the coach… oh well!

Google Ari Dimas. Pretty amazing story. He really wanted to play at UVA but was not recruited. Got into the school on his own. Started working out with the women’s team. Eventually made it onto the men’s team through hard work and persistence. Is currently a starter, including starting in the national championship last year.

Oops! Had not read post #2!
