What is the culture like?

So most of the posts on here about trinity life and culture are pretty negative… I like the school, it has a beautiful campus, gives good financial aid and is a top LAC… but I dont want to be disappointed by how life is at Trinity.

Are most people really conservative, wealthy kids? Im pretty liberal I would say and go to public school, Im not wealthy at all. I party but not all the time and Im not that interested in greek life. Will I fit in here?

Not everyone is conservative and preppy. Many people are wealthy and come from prep schools which is where the isolation begins. These circles within the prep schools stick together, therefore the atmosphere is very clique-y. Although, you too could find your group. There are liberals at Trinity, I’m sure you’ll find your niche.

@jjohnross - I was wondering the same thing based on all the info I have read. DS and I will be visiting this month to get a feel for the school. Did you visit? Are you still interested in Trinity?

With nearly half of the students population receiving financial aid I don’t think “most people are conservative, wealthy kids”. If you don’t like Greek life no one force u to join or discriminate you because u don’t belong to one, there are plenty clubs and organizations that welcome u all the time.

Trinity has many options for living and socializing. The school has dedicated the top housing on campus to The Fred which is a non-Frat alternative predicated on community service. The Fred Community is a non-party group and has a strong community within itself. There are other groups- theater, women’s group, etc, who have strong identities and who are not preppy or conservative. Athletics are strong and serious at Trinity, and many athletes are not out partying on a regular basis either. Trinity has one of the strongest community service programs in the country; the possibilities are endless; they have a partnership with the Learning Corridor across the street which houses public schools and a boys and girls club; many students volunteer in some capacity on a regular basis, and most sports teams get involved with community kids in some way (swim team teaches community kids to swim). Trinity is a wonderful school with lots to offer; dedicated professors are there to help you in any way. Anyone who says otherwise is walking around with blinders on and making no effort to get involved. Trinity changed my life.
