Is there a restriction on when I can start applying to schools? I plan on doing it early to not get screwed by overwhelmed servers. Also, can I apply for regular decision during the early action time frame?

Common App opens on August 1st, but schools which don’t use it have applications up online which may be open (Baylor) or allow you to save your application and submit at opening (Virginia Tech).
Good luck!

You can’t apply until the applications for 2012 admission become available. At the Common App and most colleges that I know of, that happens around August 1.

But I’m not convinced it’s wise to apply at the earliest possible moment. If you have awards, honors, accomplishments, etc., in the fall of senior year, you want to include them in your applications. Of course, you can email that information to the colleges you’re applying to after your applications are in, but it’s less work for both you and them if you don’t have to.

I think working on them ASAP is an excellent idea. But I think you can avoid crashing servers and all that just by applying a week or two before the deadline.

It honestly just depends on the school. If it requires a common app, then that comes out August 1st, so you will have to wait until then to start filling it out. Now however, you can check each school’s web pages to see if they need the common app, and whether or not they have a supplement essay requirement. Most will come out in August I am pretty sure, but some schools who are not using the common app have their apps online already. A few of them will at least have their essay prompts out.
For the next week however, it is probably a good idea to start on the 250-500 word common app essay or whatever supplement essays you can find:). The common app is pretty easy since you can literally write on any topic you would like.

Have fun. :)

Oh don’t worry about essays, I already have 3 written out, I have several more to go. -___- So many essays.
