What is the likely hood of blue petition approval

Blue petition is to exceed unit maximum of 216

lets say someone double majoring, is the college forthcoming on approving someone to go over the 216 max.

Does the max apply to your CC units, or is it 216 ONLY at ucla?

From my understanding, it depends on whether you came in as a transfer or as a true first year with simply CC units/credits. For the latter case, it wouldn't count. As for transfers, good question. You might wanna check with Murphy Hall on that. I think squeezing in a minor or honors credit gets approval too. I know on the old registrar's website (late 90s), you get a max of 228 if you are double majoring.

I am a transfer, CC units for a transfer, for a freshman i know its minus AP and minus any CC units during high school.

For people who double major, I think the unit cap is extended to 224. Would that help? Also, are the rest of the courses you need only major courses?

its not extended for people who double major.

all of my courses are only major courses. i dont take any GEs

The likelihood is decent if you have a double major, but it's by no means guaranteed. How many units would you go over?

Well, i think it will be like 4-5 classes over.

But, i oculd have sword that i read somewhere your CC units do not count toward the max

I have a sword. It's pointy in places.

Sorry, I couldn't resist...

Your CC units do count, but oftentimes petitions can be made if some classes that don't count toward anything are found. That's what happened to me.

For the CC units thing, I think that's when you reach 105 units total, your CC units will stop being counted.

And I'm sorry about the extended unit thing. Apparently that was an older policy (a few years back) that I think is not in place anymore.

Also, if you double major, when will you expect to graduate?

like a quarter or two later.

most likely two quarters later.

sword and sworn are almost the same word :)

Malishka,

I was just looking into it. From what I can gather, they've become stricter from when I was there. Boo. However, here's my suggestion: Come up with a battle plan. Argue extremely good reasons for your double major. Like, show how both majors intersect in a way that will be necessary for you to really utilize the full potential of your UCLA experience. You can't go in with just, "I dunno...I just wanna do it..." Have your guns loaded and ready.

If that fails, consider a minor in one of them. Remember that a second major won't do much for you in the long run that a minor can do.

So does that mean you have to stay for fall quarter 07? That probably makes things a lot harder since UCLA is sooooo stringent on the graduating-in-four-years thing. I've also been hearing rumors that lately the College has been advocating a minor over a second major whenever possible in these situations.

This is my first quarter at UCLA.

I would have stayed to atleast fall 07 anyways.

At orienation that told us that if you go over 216, but finish within your 2 years post CC , they dont care.

I might need 1 quarter extra. Maybe i wont. I dont know, i am just doing some reaserach as to weather i want to do it or not andthe likely hood of it being allowed.

If you can finish within 2 years post CC, then your petition to go over units will have a much, much better chance of being approved. Basically, UCLA is only worried if you have to stay that extra fall or even fall and winter quarters.
