If any of you have, or have friends that have done so, why?

I am transferring from Pitzer here is my reasons why

1)Academic suck if its not one of there select good programs.
2)Social scene is terrible
3)If your not a hipster or rich and like to pretend your a hippie then you wont fit in
4)Soooo small
5)All the other schools think Pitzer is a joke academically
6)A ton of freshmen were very unhappy and are transferring
7)very isolated if you dont have a car
8) the parties get so old
9) a lot People just dont care much about school and just do hard drugs all the time
10) Pitzer rewards people for doing nothing. For example they have a class called restoring nature that you do absolutely no work and you get the same credit for taking Bio with a lab.

I could go on for awhile…

that sounds bad… if you don’t mind can you describe the social scene a little more? also I heard size and people aren’t really a problem because you can branch out to the other 5Cs.

Well about the size. The school seems small because a lot of clubs, sports, and other programs are divided between Pomona Pitzer and CMS so that makes seems feel smaller. Also Pomona people largley keep to themselves because they have a pretty tight community. Mudd people also don’t party or take many classes outside of mudd because of their requirments. This makes the school seem small. Trust me I thought the same thing as you before I went. Well Pitzer cannot really throw any parties because of a lack of venue and their drinking policy. They are horrible at creating events. There are a few off campus parties that can be fun but they are not often and only limited to a few houses and are not a sure thing because most people don’t live off campus. Because of this the Claremont parties are the same theme and in the same place every year. The same people generally go out and are into the social at the claremonts so it makes it also feel small. This is just my opinion. I was pretty into the social scene so I experienced it at all the schools.

I’m sorry that you had such a horrible experience with Pitzer, Medic.

That said, you have posted your same reasons for transferring out on a number of threads, often verbatim. I could personally respond to each of your points with counter-arguments, but you are certainly entitled to your opinion.

Your experiences are, however, subjective. Instead of making generalizations such as “a “ton” of freshmen were very unhappy and are transferring,” stick with your specific personal knowledge.

Again, I’m sorry you had a bad experience, but I don’t think you are representative of the general sentiment towards Pitzer.

All I am saying is that people should be aware that some people have these opinions. Pitzer definetly comes off to people as being this utopia where everyones happy. Just trying to make people aware of some reasons why people may not be for people who are having a hard time deciding like I was.
