If you think that the point of “trying” in high school is to build a resume for the colleges you’d most want to attend, then, you’re right, for you trying was a waste of time.

^^^ Thanks, see what I mean.

I know what you mean, Colleges00701, it’s a little like working long hours, investing your money in the stock market, and then watching it disappear. If it makes you feel any better, I worked hard and got into some of my reach schools and STILL feel like it wasn’t worth it.

I figure, all that work is in the past. Might as well take the current situation and milk it for all it’s worth/ make the best of it.

whats even more upsetting is I will be going to college with kids who didn’t try at all, A&M has taken kids that will have ended up at cc’s…

It looks like you didn’t apply to many mid-level “target” schools. It’s a very competitive year. I agree that you should choose a waitlist to actively pursue.

My understanding is that A&M and UT have very different feels, but are both good schools. And you can always transfer later.

“Trying in life” got you into A&M. Yes, people who are less qualified got in as well, but you were likely a shoe-in. Is there an honors program you can pursue? You may have gotten into some other good schools had you applied–and if you choose to take a gap year or semester, I’m sure you can find other schools to your liking. Trying also gave you the smarts you’ll need to make it through whatever college you attend and throughout your life. It’s okay to be upset, but don’t let your disappointment define you. Rise above.

how did “trying in life” get me into a&m, kids I know that go there have 1600/2400’s, some kids have 1500/2400s…they had 2.8’s and were barely top 60 percent of their class(they spent most of their time just hanging out and never working)…I am stupid, I was waitlisted at WashU (everyone is waitlisted no one is ever rejected), emory waitlisted me and they dont even look at class rank, and boston college( which I thought was sort of in my range) and not a super reach like all of my other schools…

No honors program at a&m, just honors classes. this sucks…can’t stop hyperventilating…to have scored a 1500/2200 and a 3.8 unweighted gpa and not get in anywhere good.

Colleges— you may be underestimating A&M. 1360 out of 1600 is required for automatic admit. In my area, lots of kids end up on the Blinn team bc they can’t get into A&M. You must have gotten CAP’d. If you were my son, I’d tell you to go to UT Arlington or UTSA or where ever, bust your butt and get a 4.0, transfer into UT, kick butt there. You are obviously smart and could do great things at UT and go to any graduate school from there. Plus, think how much money your family can save for grad school by paying in-state tuition for undergrad.

^^ The sad part is, my parents could have paid 55,000 a year for colleges…

I feel really bad for the kids who got accepted to some great schools, but couldn’t afford to go, if I was in that postion than a&m wouldn’t have been so bad, but I can afford to pay full cost at top schools and I still can’t get in…

I have the same stats as you pretty much.

1440 on SAT without writing. 2090 with. Top 15%-16% I’m Asian. I got into Emory’s Oxford College, (waitlisted at Emory Main), Miami University and New College of Florida. No Rice, No Duke.

Hang in there~!

Why don’t you apply for Oxford College?

you can still do it.

^^ I did…

Colleges, if you are full pay, then imo your chance of getting off one of the wait lists is better. I’d call Wash U and Emory, reiterate your interest and remind them, politely, that you are full pay. Update them on your accomplishments, keep your grades up and let them know it.

^^ I will…but whatever no point in gettting my hopes up since waitlist_------> accept is 10 percent or less chance…no point in checking Cornell decision…

I’m waiting on USC, Michigan, Stanford, Harvard, Yale and Brown. If nothing goes down, off to Emory!

For me, if it comes down to oxford college of emory and a&m, I don’t know what i’d choose…

Oxford College.

If you end up going send me a PM.

I’ll know where i’ll be at 4 PM tomorrow

lol yah, if i do, i will pm you…but thats if i can get in, because i sent in my app for oxford just now…

Jeez, it’s not what college you go to, but what you make out of that college.

You shouldn’t be asking yourself, “Why I didn’t get in”, but “How can I push my standards higher”.

Define yourself, don’t let your college define you.

Well, what is the point of this thread, is the point to feel sorry for yourself? People like you will fail if they don’t get what they want. You need to wipe your tears and focus on a new goal. Think of the future and plan what you want to do. Do you want to be a lawyer, then start borrowing some books on law, etc. Get ready for college so you can do well when you get there.

whatever, I have zero motivation to try now…whats the point, I am going to a school full of kids with 1700s, and 3.0’s…kids in my high school who skipped 2/5 days a week can get into A&M…
