What is the proportion of Jewish undergrads?

From the Crimson, 1938:

A survey of questionnaires sent out to Freshmen by Phillips Brooks House before registration revealed yesterday that there are three nudists in the Yard this year.

Among other questions on the card was one concerning the religion of the student. All but about 40 answers testified to orthodox beliefs but among the deviations were eight Mohammedans, six Buddhists, and 20 atheists.

The most puzzling answers were three which professed nudism, one which held to the Boy Scout oath and one asserting "anachronism."

Back to the modern era:
A probably hugely inaccurate survey a few years ago by the Indy put the number at 16.5%.

Someone told me that hillel puts it at about 30% (at least half jewish). That may be exagerating a bit but from my own anecdotal evidence this seems at least somewhat accurate.

usually around 25-35%

what? 30% of harvardians are jewish??? wowser gasping so much for AA i think

I would have guessed 25-30%. About 60% of the class is white Americans, and something less than half of those are Jewish.

The faculty (and particularly the law school faculty) is considerably more Jewish than that.

Wow, I am enlightened now. No wonder why US foreign policy leans heavily toward pro-Israel.

Jews are indeed a power behind the curtain ! ! !

To follow on that, what happened to AA for college admittance?

keep in mind that the the majority of Jewish Americans live in the Northeast, specifically Boston and New York, which is why there is such a significant Jewish population at most northeastern colleges. If Harvard and Yale etc were located in say, small towns in Arkansas and North Dakota, the number of Jewish students would be much much smaller.

This is from a non Jew. There is an elephant in the living room that we just don't seem to want to acknowledge. Jews are overrepresented at Harvard because they are simply intellectually superior as a group. I'm not going to get into the nature or nurture argument, but when one sees all that the Jews have accomplished in science, business, engineering, literature, music etc... despite the fact that they make up about 3% of our population .... its a wonder that they only make up 30% of the Harvard population.
