Yeah, I live in a very nice suburban community. I have the lowest EFC among my friends. A 0 EFC is unheard of here. It makes me feel grateful for what I have looking at these posts.

Mine is a double-edged sword, I’ll say that much. (Yeah, that could mean any number of things!)

8900…my school thinks that our EFC is 15000, i mean we still have 15000 to come up with after they gave us their 15000…

Ok so mine is 3382 - is that good or bad? I thought it was high since income was under 40000

sela - It’s what it is. On the positive side, you’ll be eligible for Pell, ACG, subsidized Stafford, and perhaps state aid. Hopefully, some of your schools will offer additional aid, work study, and perhaps FSEOG or additional subsidized loans. If you don’t receive some of these components, ie. work study, it’s okay to call and ask if it can be added.

My cousin is a single mom of two, both of whom will be in college next year. She earns ~60K and said she is not eligible for any FA for her D’s state school. I know there is a lot of calculatin’ that impacts each family’s situation, but generally this doesn’t seem right to me. I ran the CC estimator, and I think it’s too general. My gut tells me she should be eligible and have a kinda low EFC. What do you think?

mine was like 1432…i was happy b/c the first time i did it it was like 3500…which was almost borderline for not qualifying for the pell grant…idk why some of yall is sad about havin a low efc…a low efc is better than a high one b/c if my father was still working id have a high efc…be gettin no gov. aid and out of luck b/c there was no saving plan…im goin to a state school University of Kentucky with a $50,000 scholarship($12,500/year)

how exactly is the EFC suppose to work? My family has one of about 9000. Does that mean we have to only pay $9000 per year and the rest should be in grants and work study? Or can they make us take out $30k in loans?

When do the schools typically send out the financial aid packages. I have only received one so far and it is almost all loans, which I found unacceptable. I dont expect to go to school for free, but I also dont want to take out $30k in loans each year.

Well, it’s not 1876… some school keeps editing so it’s 2911 now. It has been changed without my will three times now. :(

We came up with 26000, but then there was no place to mention the loans we’re paying for his older brothers.

It doesn’t have to be grants. It can be subsidized loans so you’re not accruing interest while in school.

2400 bucks for me… so nice

I had a 5236…is that good or bad? Its for an OOS public school…

for now its around 7800.
hopefully it goes down once we enter the latest tax info cuz thats kind of a stretch :[

9800

Lower than I expected, actually. xD

mine is 0.
why do you view this as negative? that means I have to pay nothing for my tuition and if i work during school i will have money to spend.

19K which is ridiculous. more than 25% of our take home pay…in fact almost 30%.

Interesting thread…though for the life of me, I can’t figure out why anyone would want to know another person’s EFC. The only one that really matters is yours.

mike, that is only if you go to a school that meets 100% of need. The VAST majority of colleges do not.

how do you quote?
