What is your favorite thing about Carleton?

This could be sort of fun to talk about while we're waiting for decisions.

I love that there are TWO lakes on campus! And an 800 acre arboretum!

There are so many things to choose from! I too love the lakes and the Arb and the general beauty of the campus. I love that the general student attitude felt - at least to me - very intelligent, but not extremely cutthroat or competitive. And I love the Minnesota location.

Oh yeah. And the Dacie Moses House.

What’s not to love? :)

Oh man, Dacie Moses! When I found out about that I could hardly even believe it. A house devoted to baking cookies? Only at Carleton… :)

I know! That was actually the deciding moment for me…haha

Besides being very strong in sciences, I think my son’s favorite thing is that Ultimate is HUGE there (Not one, but two national champion teams last year!) :)

Senior Daughter at CC: love the Arb, Blue Monday (latte and scones anyone?), Minnesota State Fair, campus WiFi, relaxed yet productive nature of students, the incredible education she got, book store, helpful administrators, foreign study options, Northfield, no more bills to pay to Carleton.

Admissions-wise - the Dean of Admissions looks like Santa Claus.

(HonestDescendent - can’t wait til June 12th!)

as a current carl…

when i was applying, the main reason i decided carleton was the place for me was because everyone seemed so happy to be here. when i toured other schools, i didn’t get the impression that most of their students were passionate about their school - but most of the carls i met while applying were. (and now that i’m a student, i’ve discovered that this is still very true.)

as a student, i love carleton because it stretches me in ways that i didn’t think were possible. i’ve grown so much as a student and a person in the past two terms, and i attribute it to a lot of the things that are uniquely carleton. being a student here can be incredibly difficult, but it is so completely worth it.

Probably the professors :)

As a prospective student and passionate Quiz Bowler, I’ve got to say that I love Carleton’s Quiz Bowl team. Those teams are a rare commodity among schools, let alone close-knit teams of Carleton’s caliber.

Oh! I didn’t know Carleton had a good quiz bowl team! That is amazing - I really want to join quiz bowl.

And play soccer in college, write, debate, photography, Russian club, Dems, community service. Okay, it has already been established that if I ever get to go to college I will just over-join everything again, and try to do too much stuff and never sleep.

But Quiz Bowl I am very sure about. And soccer. And all the others.

I also love the campus and the arboretum. And the fact that Carleton has snow. And a lot of it. And the town seems great too, with other colleges nearby.

Now let us hope we get to enjoy their undoubtedly amazing acceptance letter too.

Good luck everyone still waiting for a decision - I hope you all get good news next friday!

GuiltyBystander, I like you already! I hope we get to go to Carleton together. :)

GuiltyBystander, that’s really funny - I feel the same way (and have a lot of the same interests!). I definitely want to play soccer if I go to Carleton, but also write (newspaper? on my own?), join the Dems, do community service, and take advantage of (free!) music lessons.

I actually laughed when I read “over-join everything and try to do too much stuff and never sleep” - that describes me to a T! If the typical Carleton applicant is anything like the ones who post here, I’m pretty confident I’ll be able to add “the students” to my list of favorite things. :)

You should definitely join the Russian club, it’s amazing. Russian is also one of the best departments at Carleton. Good luck on your decisions! :)

wait, decisions come out next friday?!? eeeeek i’m so excited/nervous

Thanks guys! I hope you guys all get in!

And thanks about the Russian tip, Alone, I have listed Russian as one of my potential majors (together with econ), so it is good to hear that Carleton’s department is that good!

After starting this thread it turns out I’m waitlisted.

I still love you, Carleton, but I guess it’s not meant to be…
