What is your first name?

Thanks LadyinRed:) the first A is usually pronounced just like the sound Ahh, but a lot of people pronounce it as a short u sound as well. Either way is fine, though.

I've always thought Alma was a Spanish name (even though I'm not of Spanish origin, lol). I think in Spanish, it means soul.....

My name is Ben...but a large amount of people call me big-B (hence my username) or ice....

Sarah

I'm surprised that I'm the first one. It's Hebrew for "princess," which is really tacky, but the name itself is ok. I always thought it sounded like a boy's name.

My mom almost named me Sawyer.

Katherine (but I go by Katie)

Funny, I was going to be named Lauren, but my mom and dad thought there would be too many other girls named that. Turns out the most popular name at my school, by far, is Katie or any form of Katherine. (Is it that popular everywhere else too?) On my newspaper staff of 20, there are 4 Katies besides me. :(

The name "Katie" means nothing to me in conversation because I know so many of them. Katy or Caitie might narrow it down a little... I also know a few Kates and a lot of Katelyns (but with 30 alternate spellings).

At the other school in my town, there are 3 or 4 Laurens in the in-crowd. It's funny hearing them introduce themselves: "This is Lauren Studley. We call her Studley. This is Lauren Oberzan. We call her Obie. This is Laurent (with a T!) Lewis. We call her Lauren."

Wow, that's so funny.

All I can say is thank God I'm not named Katelyn--who knows what the proper way is to spell it.

Caitlin. Thats the proper way. ;)
(at least in my book)
Not my name though.

It's one of those names that has shared roots between several different languages, each Indo-European. According to BabyZone.com, "Alma" means:

Romance languages (stemming from Latin, including Spanish): Nourishing, soul

Persian: Apple

Celtic: Good

Swedish: Loving

Amy. Very simple and quite common. I've always wanted names like Wren or Grainne.
Anyways, I think Amy means "beloved" in old French.

Thanks for the research, beginning. I had no idea my name meant so many different things

eric

so original.

Samantha.

Boring, I know. I wish I was named something more...exotic. Ha. :)

neha.....
ahh the pronounciations i get to hear..........:p

<----can anybody guess my name?

My first name's Jeannine. My middle name's Ashton, an old family name. I hate my first name, because no one can ever spell it correctly!

michelle

which is hebrew for "one who is like God".. but i'm not hebrew .. my egotistical father ( michael) had to have both my bro & me named after him! :D

sarah is an arabic name too, lionswim, it means 'pleasant'.
summer is also arabic, it's pronounced a little different, but it's really pretty too, i wanna name my daughter that ..
and i want to name my son aidan. sounds kinda 'greek'.. i'm not sure of the origin, but i love that name.
i told that to some guys this summer at camp and they were like "aidan ..that's such a puny name, so many kids will make fun of him" and i was like no.. it's a hot name, and then i got one of the female counselors to agree with me. she said there was this hot construction worker named aidan on sex & the city or something .. i was like 'ha ha, i win' to the guys
sorry that was pretty random, i'm like bouncin off the walls cuz i'm really hyper .. and i'm home alone so the music is blasting
neha, i met like 2 indian girls this summer named that, i didn't know it was so popular.. i swear i thought of you on cc when they told me their names .. lol
ecnerwalc, is your name ernie? i dunno why, but i think of that everytime i see your user name

Sarorah, I think Aidan's a hot name. I haven't decided on any boys' names yet, but I don't really want a son. If I have a daughter, I'll probably name her either something Celtic or Czech.
