-known as the school that the local public school kids sell drugs to

-lacrosse

-We're one of the youngest high schools in the state.

-In the first few years of the school existing, it was known to be really rebelious... Students threw desks and stuff off the balconies, went in and out of school as they pleased, ignored school administration, spraypainted at night, etc. lots of kids were doing this (like 100/200 students) so they couldn't do much at first. We eventually got permanent police officers on campus. There are still flecks of paint everywhere and BB holes in all the elevators and stairwells.

-Se won some state football championship or something, after seasons of losing
nearly every game.

-There was a very controversial gay lecture at my school the year before I went there (made state news).

-Lots of pregnant chicks (2 freshman girls... and school started on July 28th)

-Lots of fights.. but most public schools here do.

-Oh and we used to have an awesome video broadcast. But they cancelled that class once we did bad on our NCLB tests.

nothing. 10char

A few months ago, my school found out that the Honors English teacher drilled a hole through his closet and installed a small camera in the girls' bathroom. When the cops went to his house, they found piles and bags of cocaine lying around (idiot!). That was in the national news.

Besides that, we're not really known for much.

That is TERRIFYING.

Lol this thread is becoming
"What is your high school infamous for" rather than known for

nothing that i can think of...

Jessica Simpson attented the high school....

umm...
locally...a coach just got arrested for 'Improper'
relationships with a student.

Crew (rowing) team - won a few national championships and wins multiple state and regional state championships.

One of the top ranked public schools in the nation. Churns out the most IB Diplomas than any other school in the nation. Used to be #1 in the Newsweek rankings several years ago. Ever since, it's still in the top 10.

"From 2000 to 2003, Stanton College Prep was ranked first in Newsweek magazine's list of the top 1,000 public schools in the United States, and is the only school in the nation to have been in the top 5 every year from 2000-2008. US News and World Report ranked Stanton at ninth place on its 2008 list of America's Best High Schools. It has frequently ranked 1st in the United States in the number of International Baccalaureate diplomas awarded. Stanton perennially leads the Jacksonville metropolitan area in the number of National Merit Scholarship recipients, and consistently ranks in the top three in the state."

-Kid killed himself after his girlfriend cheated on him last year, right after the VT killings.
-Various sports crap
-(Formally) biggest student body in the state

Nothing terribly exciting. We're a pretty trashy looking school however, between the ghetto population and the 60-year-old structure.

Oh yea, Bow Wow went to my high school (or probably like the middle school in my district, and then became famous and stuff).

back in the day the guy who invented the slinky graduated from my school
...that's the only thing that I can think of =[

uhhhh just made top 100 list.
and was approached by the producers of MTVs "Laguna Beach" FIRST. we were offered the reality tv show, and it was supposed to be shot at our school but our area is so community/family oriented that our administration declined. our area is ridiculous.everything closes at 9 or 10 and we can't have drive thrus because that encourages late night "hanging out".
oh and my high school is half a block from the ocean

lebron james apparently broke or shattered or whatever the backboard of a basketball hoop at my school.

stow munroe falls high school, OH

I don't understand what's the big deal about teacher/student "improper" relationships if they're both consenting. lol.

Some coach at my school was arrested for "improper relations" with some girl student. Except he wasn't at fault, she forced herself on him hahaah.

^ I don't know. What is wrong with a 40 year old, married gym teacher coming on to some slutty, 15 year old, part-time hooker, freshman if they both approve?

short skirts, slutty girls, big parties.

We're a very mediocre school. I mean, we're pretty good and pretty bad at some things, but we're never the best or the worst. Our football team might be awful, but we won one game. We are a so-called "Blue Ribbon" school, but we still don't have an economics class and one of our honors, AP-prep classes was recently taught by a high school flunk-out.

I still love my school, though. Its shortcomings are charming, and one grows accustomed to it after a while.

I suppose we aren't famous for anything because we aren't famous. :)

question: can a teacher get arrested for "improper relations" if the student is 18?

It depends on the age of consent for your area probably. I think they probably could, but they shouldn't be able to. At least I hope not!
: o

uh oh lol.

bried08: He can not get arrested because once 18, you are at the age of consent in all states (it's 16 in most states). This means that the relationship would not be considered rape, if the relationship was consenual. On the other hand, the teacher's job and career would be put at risk because it would be against school policy.

I have to say though, I'm curious as to why you asked...lol
