What is your idea of a "good" SAT score?

a 2400. duh. anything else would be absolutely abysmal and you would automatically get rejected from community college

True.
In Fairyland.

actually it's in candy land

I'm gunning for a 2300, but I recognize that 2200+ is perfectly fine.

Yeah, like, when people ask my SAT I reply "Well, I did pretty well, but I retook it a couple weeks ago. I had a 2250." They respond ".....WTF?????? You're retaking a 2250???"

Same with my ACT "Well, I got a 33 composite, but I'm not sending that." "Whaaaaaaaaaaaat???????????? Why the hell not??" "Well, because I got 36 on math, 35 on english, 33 on reading, but 26 on science, which really doesn't look good considering I'm planning on going into engineering." Them: ".....I got a 25 composite with 20 on science, and I'M going into science.... scoff"

sheepish grin

Eravial08,

Is there any reason in particular that you're retaking a 2250? I mean, the time is so much better spent doing other things. It's not really like a 2300 is going to get you into schools that a 2250 won't, and the time, money, and energy could be devoted to many other things that WILL make a difference.

EXACTLY. So well said. (just looked to see who you are and you're a mod which explains it)

Studying to get 2200+

I think the takeaway point I want all of you guys to understand is this:

2250 = 1500 (for all intents and purposes).
2300 = 1530 (for all intents and purposes).

In terms of admission, there is not a single school that is going to see a 2300/1530 and go "Aha! Let's admit this individual before the 2250/1500 person!"

And I know what you're probably thinking. "But I can still do other stuff AND work toward that 2300!" Seriously though, there is no guarantee that you can pull up a 2250 any higher. There is, however, a guarantee that you can spend that time working on your ECs, exercising, or studying for classes. Any one of those is more likely to benefit you in the short and long run than trying to go for a 2300.

That, and the tests cost how much today? Spend it on a Wii or something instead. You'll get far more utility out of it.

Personally, anything above 2100 is great. 2000+ is good.

You sad people who say anything above a 2300 make me laugh.

My goal is 2250 +. Idea of a good score is anything above 2100

UCLAri: Before, a 1400/1600 was MUCH harder to get, since the curve was brutal (you literally had to get all questions correct for a 1600. Today, you can get a few wrong, since the curve is more rewarding, which is why there are a few hundred~thousand of students getting a 2400, while less than 50 got 1600 in the old SAT)

2250 or 2300.. along with all those others here with such absolutely skewed perspectives.

Kowloon,

It still doesn't matter THAT MUCH. That's my point. A 2250 vs. 2300 difference is almost meaningless in admissions. On the margin, you're better off spending the time on other things.

2200+ (that's my goal)

The test itself doesn't take much time. It's the obsessing.

The test doesn't, but the prepping sure does. I remember some of my classmates spending hours upon hours prepping for the SAT.

like me. let's hope it pays off. I sure hope it does but I have a strange feeling I'm really not going to do as well as I think. Well, it's not the end of the world.

On the subject, are a few centralized ECs that demonstrate passion and leadership better than those same ECs, a little bit worse grades, but with the addition of president of a club/members of other clubs/community service?

I have no community service nor am I a president of a club but I do have a few ECs that demonstrate passion/leadership.

2200+ (but that's only b/c i want to go to an ivy)
otherwise,
2000+ would be satisfactory for me.

im aiming for a 2250+, but if i get at least a 2200, then thats great too.
for some reason, for me at least, i see a big difference between 2190 and 2200 even though they are basically the same thing.

Is 2200 superscore good enough for Ivies (I’m in the “Asian pool”-a very competitive pool)?? I am so nervous

2000+ is a good score!
