What isn't good about Bowdoin?

This thread is inspired by the Stanford and Harvard threads. What are some things about Bowdoin that aren’t so good that you wish you could change?

BC there are no frats, social scene revolves around sports teams. Not everyone will find their niche here in terms of the social scene early on. You will eventually develop a closer circle as you grow here but early on it can be easy to get lost, as weird as that sounds at a small school. Unlike a huge school, you dont have ABCDE—Z options. You have X, or Y,or Z (chem free maybe?) and that’s it in terms of social scene. If you’re on a team you’re all set though. Join a team! :)

However, Bowdoin was a superb experience and you shouldn’t let this scare you too much. I can count on one hand the number of true weirdos in each graduating class that had no friends (seriously, not just a figure of speech). That’s less than 1% of each class. That means you have 99% that you can mingle with just fine for the most part.

It’s in the middle of nowhere.

Ricck1, you are mistaken. Bowdoin is in a beautiful small city on the Southern Maine coast, 30 minutes from Portland. It’s not in a big city, but the location is very appealing in other respects.

^^^^^ Correct.

Bowdoin is in a part of Maine which is a tourist mecca. Brunswick has something like 80 restaurants, with all different international cuisine options.

The coast is within a couple miles of campus (water view from Bowdoin’s tallest building), and you could be there for surfing, or lobster-in-the-rough in a matter of minutes from campus.

In addition to all of this, there is a high speed train to Boston (+/- 2 hrs) which leaves practically from campus – walking distance-- and costs only about $20. Bowdoin hardly feels isolated.

Nothing…Bowdoin is an awesome school. Bates too.
