What it takes and what do you think got you into Princeton?

So I hear a lot here that people that get in Princeton apart from being well rounded and very good in all academic areas they have something they pursued with a lot of effort. So like what do you think got you into Princeton(people admitted or attending)?? Could you also post your stats like people do in what are my chances?

Thanks

Did any of you guys that got accepted applied for financial aid?

Princeton is 100% needbased & needblind, even for international students. So it doesn't matter if you apply for aid.

I did a lot of music related stuff, although I don't plan on majoring in music. Pit orch, youth orch, school orch, regional orch. State-wide competitions. Music honor societies. I'm not sure if that helped though.

I started a debating society in my school I thinkt that would be an adavantage right?

Starting/founding a club is great, but I think its the hours you put in, the impact of your committment, your demonstrated passion that will make the difference. Is debating your big thing?

being a minority, a recruit, or a legacy.

Yeah, I wonder how I got in, since I'm not a minority, recruit, or legacy.

Being a minority, recruit, legacy, or someone with a unique EC is my guess. Of course, these options begin to dwindle once your SAT dips below the 1500-threshold. This is my theory anyway.

is being international and latin a minority?

I mean my skin is white I can be caucasian but the country I live in has a lot of mix... I can also be a latin cause I am not completely white my skin is a bit dark

If I go to the beach and tan there for one week I can be considered semi-black

so can I go for minorities?

i was accepted with fin aid. i think being a recruit helped me, but i still had the stats necessary. saying that tho, i know plenty of other ppl that got in without being a minority, recruit, or legacy, or being insanely genius. they're just normal, but for whatever reason they're app stood out in some way. who knows.

wellrounded, leadership positions, good 'numbers'.

so if you are beyond a certain point it is like a lottery?

my skin is white I can be caucasian but the country I live in has a lot of mix... I can also be a latin cause I am not completely white my skin is a bit dark

If I go to the beach and tan there for one week I can be considered semi-black

so can I go for minorities?

I consider myself to be pretty normal when compared to other applications, but I will be graduating with an AA degree which is pretty unique IMO (yeah, other applicants have college credit, but i don't they can say they will have their degree and was on the dean's list at a college).

oh yea, I taped a tiny pic of nemo on my application. : )?

I think definitely the leadership positions...

The essay! Also the focus on one particular interest which in my son's case is his art. They are impressed with success in whatever talent that you mention whether it be music, visual arts or sports.

gocollege - no, but you can be considered for skin cancer.

I don't buy the idea that admissions to top schools is just a crapshoot. From all my experiences, I've seen that people who do get into ivies usually get into most of the ones they applied to, i.e. if you're good enough you'll get in non-randomly.

For my part, I was a relatively normal upper-middle class smart suburban kid for the most part.
The only thing that could've put me over the top is that I'm half Estonian, lived there for a few years, speak four languages, and have a father who is one of the go-to people in foreign policy in Europe (thanks to which I've met lots of world leaders, etc) - but those are not really such a big deal
