Unweighted GPA: 3.36
Weighted GPA: 3.47
I took a heavy course load Junior year (2 of my classes were APs, including Calc AB). Senior year I’ll be taking my math class at an ivy league school, 2 more APs, as well as Spanish 5 Honors and normal English and Physics (my school doesn’t offer AP Physics).
I’m not sure what caliber of school I should be applying to. Will schools focus on my Junior and (potentially amazing) Senior year, or will they look at my cumulative and instantly reject me?
Hi I work in an admissions office as a tour guide and interact a lot with admissions counselors. What they will look at first and foremost is your gpa - unweighted, followed by your test scores - generally used to corroborate the body of work. Most schools do not take into account your senior year. If you wait to apply regular decision that may help you because a semester will be in the books.
Will they immediately reject you - no. Will it be more difficult certainly.
Id recommend getting a high test score out there and maybe waiting to apply for that regular decision time period. Especially for your reach schools. for safety schools you should be good applying early. Hope this helps! and enjoy senior year.
I don’t know a lot about engineering specifically. But because of your GPA, I’d apply conservatively. Schools like CalTech, Harvey Mudd, or MIT will be out of reach for you, regardless of how good your junior year was. Start by finding some safeties, then add matches and a few more realistic reaches. Good luck!
Many schools like WPI,RPI, Union will be more likely than MIT. What are you looking for in a school? What are your financial constraints? You’ll find a very good engineering program.
