From what I’ve seen people usually start out as set PAs and make min wage or become office assistants and make $15/hr. Not really worth the $60k a year imo
I’m not sure what you’re expecting. You think people leave film school and are immediately hired to direct big budget features? Sure, that might happen in exceptional cases, but overall, you start with entry-level jobs, like everyone else. What SCA can do, however, is give you connections that you couldn’t get elsewhere. Well, that and four years of top-quality education that will help you get hired in the first place.
I don’t really know what you’ve “seen” or heard, but instead of judging, maybe do some proper research and see what SCA alumni are up to now, because a lot of them have pretty awesome jobs, and no, not everyone is in it for the big bucks. Whether 60k/year is worth it, that’s something that everyone has to personally decide for themselves.
As an SCA senior, I’m probably gonna apply to writing fellowship programs or become a writer’s assistant when I graduate, because that’s how people become staff writers for TV. And sure, I could do both of those without my USC education, except I’d probably have no clue how to write for TV or what samples people are looking for, and I likely wouldn’t even know anyone in the TV industry.
@LayraSparks Nicely put.
