what kind of literature score would add to a science student's chances?

I got 2400 SAT I superscored, 2400 Phy Chem Math2 single sitting.

What is the worst Lit score I can send before it hurts my chances? would a 650-700 add anything? I'm a pure science student in school, if that helps.

anyway this whole Lit thing started because I heard from CCers that having a slew of Sci/math SATIIs isn't v well -rounded, so I took Lit to add a humanities SAT II. is it really true that I'd be disadvantaged then, if I have just Sci/math SAT IIs?

Can you please ask your personal SAT questions on ONE thread (and ONLY one)? I know you're nervous, but I think I've seen at least three of these...

i don't think it matters. i think what would hurt you is if you only did AP math/science courses and skipped out on AP english/history/government/etc.

I think anything above 700 would be safe. A 650, on the other hand, next to your 800s for the Sciences, would not look good.

To me it's better to leave the nice scores alone, Sciency as they are, rather than try to look well-rounded and end up looking like you tried and failed. (Granted, a 650 isn't a fail, but it's a far cry from 800s.)

If you're worried about your overemphasis (for lack of a better word) on Science, do remember you have English, Social Studies, and your essays to round it out.

JTKay: I won't send if I get below a 700.

However, I might re-apply again at the end of this year if i don't get in anywhere. if get below 700 this time, and I retake my Lit and get above 700 on a retake, it shouldn't look bad then, right?

and oh, I took the A levels, which is very lopsided in the first place: triple science + math. 4 subjects are the max.

Why do you want to take literature? You will NOT be disadvantaged AT ALL.

Yup... seeing how many people retake subjects to show improvement in them (i.e. bump up their scores), a more recent, higher score would cancel out the lower one. In the admission committes' eyes, anyway, since most colleges say they only consider your highest scores.

You might also want to consider getting some practice books for more Humanities-oriented subjects IF you really are concerned - say U.S. History. I'm not sure if you won't be disadvantaged, because there's that stereotype floating around of Asians who can only do Maths and Science, get straight 800s for that, and beyond that, are blah and passionless. (Essays essays essays help you here! If Lit and US History end up no go, then perfect your essays like there's no tomorrow.)
