Hey everybody,

I'm currently a junior in high school, and was just wondering which types of colleges I should apply to come next fall. My grades have changed dramatically, so I'm not quite sure of the kinds of schools I should consider. I started out high school very weak. Freshman year I earned a 3.2 GPA, and I didn't take any honors/AP's as non were available. Sophomore year I raised my GPA to 3.5 unweighted and 3.9 weighted. 1st Semester Junior year I pulled my GPA up to 3.7 unweighted, 4.5 weighted (2 honors, 3 AP's).

For extracurriculars, I did LD debate Sophomore and Junior year, and I joined the Jazz band this year. I'm not sure if it counts for anything, but music is my passion, and I have practiced guitar about 2 hours a day all throughout high school (since I was about 11, actually).

For community service, I tutored kids in elementary school freshman year, and Sophomore year I went on a trip to New Orleans in which we helped restore a youth center for teenagers in a bad part of town and worked with inner city kids at a day camp. This year I'm planning on volunteering at a boys and girls club.

I'm considering majoring in cognitive science, psychology, or potentially economics. I'm attracted to some of the top universities in the country like UC Berkeley, Stanford, Brown, etc., but I'm not set on them or anything as I'm mostly concerned with fit. In terms of college climate, I'd prefer to go to a school thats not too conservative. I'd like to go to a college with open minded intellectuals, however I want to be able to have some fun as well.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this, I'd appreciate your honest thoughts.
