What kinds of laptops are best for College?

I am thinking of a mac-book air but the price has me second guessing myself. I’ve been warned that it can be stolen in college ( not sure how likely that is though). I will be going to Vanderbilt this fall and need to know what you guys think. I wont be using it for gaming or anything crazy, just school stuff. I may not even use it for note taking, i don’t know yet. What are your opinions? Please let me know if there is a model and type that you recommend or use.

If you’re not doing anything serious, there’s really no reason to pay the price premium on a Mac.

I’d say to save the money and get something more affordable. HP has their 15 laptop (weird branding) marked down for the weekend. It’s $260 with coupon code K4U26AV_1, at the link below. It’s the one on top, and actually has really good specs for a windows machine at that price. Something like that should be A OK.

@hungryteenager‌ just wondering what kinds of things would make purchasing the mac acceptable?

OS X is better for certain fields of study (computer science, especially), battery life is generally very good, top-notch build quality and design, good trackpad (vendors just can’t seem to get it right!), and certain applications have a much better OS X version (or only an OS X version). And resale value is much better, as well.

There’s probably (definitely) some stuff that I’m missing, but that’s the gist of it (I’m not an expert on Macs).

The latest Thinkpad in the T-series has been fantastic for me. It has two batteries, one built-in and one that is removable. The battery can last to up to 48 hours, I believe–not to mention that one can remove the second battery without the computer shutting off, reach into one’s bag, and plug a new battery in. Thinkpads are also built to military specs, meaning they’re rather durable. If you happen to be a Visa cardholder, you’ll be able to get some discounts on the Lenovo website, should you choose to build a new computer.

If you’re going to get a Mac laptop the Pro is the way to go.
