What kinds of scholarships may colleges offer me?

That being said, my friend got a 1830 (1300 combined), a 28 on the ACT. He got accepted to Macaulay and sophie Davis. The only thing that he had going for him was that he published a scientific paper to a science journal. Does something like that really boost your chances like that? Because I can publish my science paper too but I choose not to because its a LONG process

Yes, “something like that” does boost a person’s chances. Things like that are “hooks”.

I doubt you’d be able to get yourself published in time to put that notation on a school app since, as you say, “it’s a long process”.

Since your parents are foreign, that may be why they don’t really understand the student loan limitations.

Are you a citizen or green card holder?

What will your major be? AND…are you premed?

If you are premed, would you be interested in a Comp Sci or Engineering Pre Med track?

I’m a citizen, yea premed and maybe the second choice

DO try to get that paper published . If it is a long process then start immediately . This is EXACTLY what may cause a college to overlook a so- so score. you could always try again since your fluency can only have improved and the test has a peculiar format. Don’t forget to get certification on your native language skills to show colleges and indicate native language/language spoken at home is not English.
Look at private colleges in the Midwest and South that are well-known for your area of academic interest to maximize aid. plus of course your in- state publics.
If pre med is your second choice what would be your first?

Well premed is my primary choice but if it were my secondary, my primary would be finance

"I was esl last year "

Take the TOEFL. Seriously. Even if many of the places on your list will waive the requirement because of the number of years you have been in school in the US. The TOEFL score will let them know that you still are an English Language Learner, and will give them a better measure of your current level of English skills.

Well premed is my primary choice but if it were my secondary, my primary would be finance

Ok…then what is your first choice for a major?

You have to look at the individual SUNYs. Some give merit aid, some don’t.
