As certain majors are better in Princeton comparing to other Ivy schools like Yale, UPenn, Does anyone have first hand experience to tell which majors are better in Princeton than Yale and UPenn, and which majors are week at Princeton. I am wonderng what major you are considering will inpact your choose of Ivy schools.

yeah. astrophysics there is among the best in the world, i think. math also. philosophy is also one of the only departments where professors still write new things in the field.

I don't know if the answers answer the second part of the question, will it impact your choice of Ivy. I would not let one thing do it, since there is a lot more to attending a college than just what major you have.

In comparison to Yale and U Penn, Princeton's economics, engineering, and international relations (policy making) are considered "better". Yale and Princeton are equals in history. Penn has Wharton for business. etc.

I would generally say that Princeton's A.B. program is considered stronger than its B.S.E., relative to other schools of its caliber (Stanford, MIT, Harvard, Yale, Caltech.)

As previous posters have said, math and physics are the 2 departments that immediately come to mind that are renowned as #1 or #2 in the world.

But there are plenty of great, small deparments where you get lots of individual attention. Most of the language majors - Spanish and Portuguese, German, French, etc. - and other niche sciences like Astrophysics and Geosciences (what I will be doing) are good choices, and have under a dozen kids per year who select it.

You also differentiate yourself from your classmates by picking something that's unusual.

My roommate chose princeton over harvard for engineering because he felt it was better here, so I feel the BSE program is at least n par with other ivies, although I would say Stanford, MIT, and Caltech still probably have us beat.

This is a bit off-topic and may seem silly to the typical CC'er but here it goes:
Where do get study area rankings? Like rankings that tell you which school is better for studying poli sci or engineering...
The US news rankings, QS top universities both give rankings for the best overall universities. PR ranks universities in diffrent categories like "happiest students" or "most beautiful campus" or whatevs.
So, ya...how do you know which Ivy is better for major X?

Yasmin, I think it's more just from general consensus. Although they have major-specific rankings for grad school, i doubt they do for undergrad.
