Tell me, what makes a recommendation stellar? I've read examples in a book, but I didn't think they were that good. I assume they'd focus on your personality, but I'm not sure. Anyone?

Your personality, basically that the teacher knows you on a more personal level. That they talk about you the student and how you interact with others. Also, I personally think after reading mine that they don't discuss academics excessively and should merely comment on their success is said teacher's class [if a teacher]. But yeah, this and a few other things usually makes a recommendation strong.

specifics. Lots of specifics.
and also words such as "out of my 30 years of teaching, (you) have been my best student because of your insightfulness and keen (yadadada)."
they like to see superlatives.
