What makes Dartmouth special?

What stands out about Dartmouth?

What made you personally choose Dartmouth?

Also, regarding class size and professors... what is an average class like? Do prof try and get to know their students, or do you really have to make the initiative?

What kind of students do you find at Dartmouth generally? Preppy, jocks, artsy, nerdy..etc.

What is the social life like?

How about general and career advisers?

thats a lot of questions maybe someone else can pick up the ones I don't get too...

why'd I choose dmouth?
all the regular things people quote: small school, community atmosphere, fun + friendly people.
When it came down to it, my chance of getting into dartmouth seemed the highest so I went early. I know I could have been happy elsewhere but dartmouth is amazing--no regrets here.

class sizes/profs?
class size varies, I think the official USNews says our average is something in the 20s, but it depends on the kind of class. your first year you're required to take two classes that are capped at 18 students. but if you take chem 5 (the intro chemistry course) your class might have more than 100 kids. depends on department and level of class. I had classes with 10 people in it, but I took chem 5 too, so you get a range --- which when you think about it isn't that bad. the big class you can fade away unnoticed, which may not sound good now but trust me its a good thing every once in awhile.

as for the profs they all do their best to get to know you. I bashed edsforth in another thread, but before every small discussion section I had with him he'd take the time to ask me how my week was (the sections were weekly). also, in the chem 5 class I mentioned, the prof actually learnt everyone's name! I was stunned and impressed. ok so he didn't know much about us, but thats a whole lot of names to try and remember.

thats all I'll answer the others would take more long winded reponses. hope that helps.
