I am entering my sophomore year of high school next year, and I have to take another minor to fulfill the graduation requirment. This year, I took intro to ceramics. To be honest, I’m really not that good at ceramics and my only option for next year would be taking the Advanced Ceramics Major, and I don’t think I can balance another major on top of my academic course load, so that’s out. I have been debating between the Intro to Computer Science minor and the Chorus minor. I am very interested in life science (biology, medicine) but not so much computer science. However, do you think it would be good if I took computer science to add another aspect of science onto my course list? I’m not really interested in it, but would look better on my college application since I like science, or would it not make a difference? Kind of conflicted because I really want to take choir (I love singing), but if computer science will help out my application, I will take it.
Choir WILL help you on your application! It’s good to have some sort of artistic class to round out your app. Make yourself stand out by pursuing things that interest you other than your main field. Do what excites you, because colleges want people with passion.
If you love singing, take choir. It is OK to do something you enjoy.
What is a major and minor in high school? It sounds like non core/required electives. Use your electives to fulfill requirements such as art/music like it sounds like your doing or to take classes your interested in. If you take a year of choir colleges may view it as fulfilling a requirement but if you take it for 3 years they may view it as showing passion for music. Computer Science is fine to take but not necessary if you aren’t interested in it.
