What other schools are you all looking at?

No, but I have friends there.

You can tell from an overnight there… Even the tour guides will basically lay it down for you.

doesn’t it make sense that in a school where EVERYONE takes the same classes, there might be a little more competition?

just saying.

^^ that is actually what I was thinking. Places like UChicago and Columbia are known for their intense core curriculums and subsequently, the intense competition b/t the students.

This whole college search is very personalized. If people know that they will do well in an environment such as Columbia, you go for schools with a core. For people who choose to live without such intense competition but want to get a quality liberal arts education, go for schools with little requirements. For people who can go either way, apply to a few in each category. There is a reason why there are so many colleges to choose from

I’m so glad that there are so many options. I’m applying to a whole range of schools (from little LACs to giant research universities) and I really like all the ones I’m applying to. I would not, however, ever apply to Columbia. The location kind of throws me off (I don’t think I could handle New York City AND college) and it’s so competitive. That totally bothers me. I can’t stand people who live to beat other people.

yeah i don’t want to go to college in NYC, but i def want to live there when i’m older… it would be really intense going to college there

I went to columbia first year and transferred out because it was way to intense in every way. NYC is great after college in my opinion, not during it.

Totally opposite for me…if not Brown, I would love to pursue undergrad at NYU!

If I sadly didnt get into Brown, my 2nd choice is USC!!

I live about 20 mins from there, so it is basically my 2nd home right now

Hopefully none of us have to worry about our other choices though

Unfortunately we definitely do need to be worrying about second choices…

USC sounds really fun! And, a whole lot easier to get into than Brown haha.

Brown seems a lot different than USC in terms of the student body. I would take a second look.

you guys should stop hatin’ on pomona!

not only does everyone who goes there absolutey LOVE it, but it’s not nearly as boring as you made it sound. I spent almost a week at the different Claremonts when I was doing my college tours (mostly Pomona and Harvey Mudd) and had a fantastic time. The people are really laid back – i’d say even more so than Brown and there’s a lot going on on campus. Sure, there’s a lot more to do in Provi than Claremont, but I honestly don’t get off college hill ALL that much and you probably won’t either.

I actually applied to Pomona…but its really far from where I live. I did like it alot when I went to go visit. I actually did see similarities b/t Brown and Pomona when it came to the attitude of the student body!

1 choice brown

2nd choice brown

3-1999 choice brown

then i guess NW, UVA, Duke, Dartmouth, Yale, Harvard, Penn, Vandy, etc, but screw them… GIMME BRUNO

haha kro, i feel ya, i was the same way :)

are you ED?

wow kro25—you and me are applying to just about all the same schools
but let’s just hope we get into brown!

yeah i am, and im going crazy now that im under the 24 hr mark… i was at brown last weekend visiting my sis (senior) and i was on the phone with her for a while today and shes like “just relax” and i was like “psh easy to say when ur already at brown!”

for me, id say georgetown or columbia

haha that’s so awesome to have a sibling there
i’m the first in my family to go to college
so they have no idea how anxious i am to get the decision
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
yeah, i’m that anxious

yeah i have a sister ('08) and cousin ('09) at brown and my grandfather went also so i have some connections… hopefully enough to put me over the edge

but honestly, regardless of how its viewed as legacy, becuase it deff helps in that regard, i would say hte best part of my sister going to brown is that i have been up there around 20 times and i know the school so well and i was able to relay all of this in my essays, which i really feel are the thing that gets me in if i get in, i mean my SATs and grades are great and i know that but so are everyone here’s, its that something else that makes the difference, because schools, ESPECIALLY brown, will take hte 2200 with a bubbling personality and strong desire to be at brown, over hte 2350 who wants the Ivy name, because they know all these kids can do the work and the grades but they want the kids who will really get the most out of brown and contribute the most outside of the community

engel calm down
