What Other Schools Did You Apply To?

Hi,

My daughter is a first year student at Gettysburg, and very happy there, so if anyone has any questions, I'd be glad to try to answer them for you all.

In the meantime, I have a question for you. What other schools did you all apply to? Are you considering Gettysburg because of rejections at some of the other schools? The reason I ask is because while Gettysburg was pretty much my daughter's first choice, some of the friends she has made on campus chose Gettysburg because they did not get into their first choices.(Johns Hopkins, an Ivy or two). Some of them chose Gettysburg over similar schools, such as F & M. I'm curious about what schools you guys are interested in.

D (Gburg 2013) was waitlisted at Amherst, Middlebury, Vassar, and her then-dream school, Haverford. She thought she was disappointed when we deposited for Gburg, but she (and we) have been ecstatically happy with her experience at Gburg. It almost seems funny now that she once thought she wanted to be elsewhere.

my friend was accepted and is going to be attending gburg this fall.
she also applied to villanova, muhlenberg, dickinson, fordham, umass amherst and bu. accepted to all of them, but decided upon gettysburg!

My child applied to and as accepted at - Tulane, University of Florida, Rollins, Fordham, University of Vermont, Macalester, and Northeastern.

Very excited about the Gettysburg acceptance!

Besides Gettysburg, son applied and was accepted at Colgate, Carnegie Mellon, Wake Forest and U. of Notre Dame. Waitlisted at Oberlin, rejected at Cornell. It’s really going to come down to Financial Aid packages. We made a quick trip to Gettysburg and were extremely impressed with the enthusiasm of the students and professors. Department chairs worked really hard to discuss the differences and pros/cons between an LAC and a research University. Personally, think my DS would be better off at an LAC, but I think he’s still “starry-eyed” over acceptances at “big name” schools and it doesn’t help that his friends and school staff keep telling him how great it is that he got in to such big name schools!

My Daughter’s acceptances, in order of preference:

William & Mary

Franklin & Marshall

Bucknell

Muhlenberg

Gettysburg

Dickinson

Elon

Hobart & William Smith

Skidmore

Juniata

Salisbury U

We won’t allow her to borrow for undergrad. So, since the first 3 didn’t offer any merit aid, she had to decline. :frowning: But, she knew that was a possibility from the get-go. So, it didn’t hurt as much as it could have.
