what qualifies as a departmental?

I'm currently thinking about majoring in chemistry, and I noticed that one of the requirements is three 300-,400-, or 500-numbered courses in chemistry as departmentals. To be a departmental, the undergraduate handbook states that the course must have "one or more prerequisities (i.e., be nonintroductory) and must have a strong chemistry component." My question is, does a course like Physical Chemistry: Chemical Thermodynamics and Kinetics count as a departmental? It says that it's an introduction to chemical thermodynamics, etc., but also has a ton of prerequisites.

yes that counts!

Ok thanks; do you have any advice for what sort of major I should pick as a pre-med? I’m going to be a freshman next year and am absolutely overwhelmed by all the possible choices and requirements for pre-med, major, and undergrad.

LOL i m pre-med frosh too and BEYOND confused…even when i’m deciding which 4 classes i want to list on our matriculation forms. I am interested in humanities, social sciences, and “hard” sciences, all of which pretty much covers every major Princeton has haha. As much as I would like to advise you to “take some time, explore your interests, take different classes” blahblahblah, it may be kind of difficult to take classes you like when your juggling pre-med science courses (and their labs, classes and precepts) with other courses (and precepts). At one time, I was considering a major in humanities (literature) but then i asked myself do i really want to read books and write papers, and take science classes on the side. And the truth is, I really dont know. And I wont know or be sure until I am at Princeton.
