What qualifies as an investment? (Cornell EOP/HEOP Eligibility Questionnaire #2)

8. What is the value of any investments (not including pension/IRA/401K) accounts that your parents own?

While it does not mention 529 savings plans, is that implied as also not included? What about money market accounts(paypal)?

Unless there’s another place to put 529s, I think they should be included as an investment (they’re lumped into investments on FAFSA). For money market accounts, I would include them with any savings or checking accounts - is there a separate question for those?

Theres no separate question for totals in checking/savings account/

No separate question for cash or cash accounts? In that case I’d include money market and savings accounts in the “investment” bucket. Odd that checking accounts aren’t reported, but to be safe you could include that amount in the investment total as well.

Will these numbers be cross-referenced with a Profile application?

both the fafsa and the css profile were required in addition to this application

You want to be sure that all your numbers are consistent across all applications. FAFSA and Profile will ask for the value of the checking account, so the total of all investments + cash in FAFSA should equal the total of the investment bucket in Cornell’s questionnaire.
