I’m a junior in high school and fully Indian on both sides of my family. Since there isn’t any box for Indian or South Asian or anything of the like, I’ve checked the box for Asian for most of my life. Recently though, I’ve read that it is tougher to get into colleges if you mark Asian because of the amount of stereotypical “4.0 GPA high SAT score perfect Asian” types. I’m fully Indian however, so the only other box I could check would be “other,” which I don’t think is that much better. What should I do?
You’re Asian. Check Asian, or else decline to answer.
Seriously? Be proud of your culture and heritage. Check off Asian.
Check off Asian- often your name will be a very obvious indicator, and checking off “other” may just reveal your true intentions to the AdCom.
