Christian with the Methodist Church. Although I wish we as Christians could create a unified, universal church as Jesus Christ wanted.

Hinduism (10 chars)

I'm currently in between religions. Guess I'm agnostic. I'm interested in Buddhism (but who isn't?!).

Me, for one

Justinian, I agree. There shouldn't be denominational divisions. More could be accomplished in terms of the 'great commission' through unification.

People have different beliefs. Yes, they ("they" as in Christians) all believe in the same God, and the same bible, and the same Jesus. But they interpret the bible, and the scripture, and religion differently, hence different churches.

Seems to me that Jesus didn't say anything at all about churches. He did point out that whenever two or three Christians gather together in Jesus' name, that God is with them. But I don't see the whole idea of getting super-organized (in some cases with a hierarchy) anywhere in what he said or did. He also seemed resolutely against the idea of rules, dogma, cold dead books, religious laws and so forth, preferring instead to talk about the principles of leading a spiritual life. In short, he was the first hippy;)

Haha, I wouldn't know anything about the bible. I failed that class, literally. (Went to a christian high school).

Turns out, there was nobody named "Scott" or "Brandon" in the bible as I tried to say when I faked my way through the tests

i'm jewish

Guess it takes an atheist to rock the scriptures class!

never got how people could read the bible for pleasure

Agnostic, borderline atheist.

There's some pretty wild stuff in there. Check out Onan in Genesis. There's a lot of special effects in the OT and NT both. Battles, intrigue, all kinds of stuff in the OT. In the NT, the Revelation is quite literally, a trip. The law sections of the OT are entertaining in some cases. Admittedly, the genealogies can be quite boring. When I went to school in England, we had to write a plot summary of the lesson (we used this thing called "Picture Bible Old Testament" which was umm, a big Bible comic book) and then draw 4 pictures with colored pencils (and a caption four each). I couldn't draw too well, so there went my scripture grade;)

Wow, I couldn't imagine reading the bible and understanding it.
All of that "he thou shall smite the pig if thine father is gleed" is beyond boring and confusing.

When I was little, my mother bought me a kids' bible that read like a storybook with pictures and the like, I used to read that a lot. But that's it.

Well, if you read the King James, it's written in very old language (some call it beautiful, and if you like Shakespeare, well, there you go!). There are a number of modernized versions which are built for comprehension. So, when God asks for Aaron to accompany Moses to see the Pharaoh of Egypt, he says "Word, check it: get on over to the hood [i.e. wilderness] and get with my man Moses," or something like that.

Ah, didn't know there were different languages. I may look into that one day. Although the rap-type one would probably confuse me too, lol.

LOL montrose. I read the bible for pleasure also. The book of Ezekiel will capture anyone's interest, even in the KJV. There are many funny passages in the bible. For instance, there's my favorite where the village people say the following concerning the apostles-

those who have turned the world upside down: have now come here as well.

Also, Jesus casts a demon out of a man, and his enemies try to condemn him by saying that he was of the devil.

Jesus response is: If I am of satan, how can satan cast out satan.

The bible is awesome.

Dang it, I hate when I miss threads before they become big conversations, but you know what I'm gonna answer anyway:

I'm Agnostic with Methodist

Shakespeare regarded the Bible as one of the greatest books of all times. In fact, a myriad of books have been written alluding to the Bible and Biblical thought.

I'm a totally apathetic Catholic.

"A myriad of books" = understatement of the century. When people say the Bible is the foundation of all Western literature, they're not kidding.
