1) Notebooks for taking notes. Yea, a lot of times the prof will give you power point slides, but you'll still need something for taking notes in discussion and for personal study.

2) #2 Pencils, of course, because of all the scantrons you'll be filling out. (do you people really buy your own scantrons, though? i've never heard of that. they've always been provided for me.)

3) Pens, some black/blue. some different colors also come in handy for editing papers and such.

4) white out! yes!

5) scissors, markers, glue... sounds kindergarten-esque, but once in a blue moon you'll need to make a poster. comes in handy. I guess it's optional.

6) planner. If you're the type that can remember every little project due and every little appointment time, then you probably don't need it. But hey, it helps me.

7) folders to keep loose papers in and hand in projects with.

8) STAPLER... one that you can carry with you! or paper clips.

9) one of those portable hard drive things... I have yet to get this, but I really need one.

A scantron sheet is what you put your answers on for multiple choice tests.

Scantrons are common not only for regular HS/college exams, but also for standardized tests.

Wow, you guys are cruel. Just because he didn't know what a scantron was, you start playing a joke on him. Disregard all their responses MrMatt.

Scantron is actually Megatron's brother. Most people haven't heard of him because, very early in the war between the Autobots and Decepticons, Megatron (allegedly) destroyed Scantron when Scantron helped Optimus Prime and the Autobots fight the Decepticons. It wasn't that Scantron hated the Decepticons or even that he liked the Autobots; it was a power struggle against his brother, Megatron, and he'd go to any lengths to take over as leader of the Decepticons. Starscream hoped that the two -tron brothers would destroy each other in the struggle so that he could take over, but unfortunately for him Megatron lived.

Thanks for the humor! It is very appreciated considering all of the people in this thread that are only posting about how stupid other peoples' posts are.

If your post is only complaining about another person's post, don't post it, because I don't care what you have to say! I don't know what a Scantron is because I went to a highschool of only 400 people and we had teachers that wrote tests that provided space to answer.

Bookbag(You decide which kind you need)
Loose leaf paper
Several one subject notebooks (use one for each class you take this year)
Several two-pocket folders(to store syllabi and other handouts; one for each class)
Mechanical pencils (if you're a science or engineering major these are a godsend)
Ink pens
Stapler and staples
1 ream (500 sheets) of computer paper (If and only if you have your own printer) and the appropriate spare printer cartridge(s)
1 USB flash drive (512MB-1GB should be enough space; these are great if you have to work on an assignment at the school's computer lab)
1 planner

um why would you bring your own scantrons? most schools have scantron sheets with the school's letterhead on the top, and proctors would hand those out by themselves during exams.

Ah, I neglected to mention my wonderful planner device in my post.

I use something that I've had since birth. My brain. I remember dates/deadlines/appointments 99.5% of the time probably because I've always been one to use the brain and not a "crutch". If a test comes up that I forget about, I wing it!!!

That's a lovely idea, but most of the schools I have heard of don't hand out scantrons - you are required to purchase them and bring them to the exam. They usually sell them in the bookstore.
