I currently have a 32 on the ACT. 4.0 GPA so far. Taking 5 AP Classes senior year, took 4 Junior year. I am not that involved in extra curriculars but I do a little bit. What schools could I get some scholarship money to go to for engineering or just get into? I am looking for bigger schools (Big Ten, SEC, etc.).
What is your math subscore on your ACT? If it is a 34-36 you are qualified for most any SEC or Big 10 engineering school but try to get your composite to 35-36 if you want a scholarship and easy entry to Michigan, Northwestern, UIUC, Clemson, Auburn, Vanderbilt etc.
Alabama has the best OOS scholarships in the Big 10 or SEC. You already qualify for full tuition with your current stats, assuming they continue, plus $2500 from the engineering school.
@TooOld4School My best math sub score right now is a 32 but I think I can get it up to a 33 or maybe 34. Do you think those stats could get decent scholarship to Purdue/Michigan State or slightly lower tier engineering than Illinois and Michigan?
http://automaticfulltuition.yolasite.com/ lists some big scholarships that your stats automatically get:
Full ride:
Tuskegee
Howard
Florida A&M
Louisiana Tech
Prairie View A&M
Full tuition:
Alabama
Alabama Huntsville
Temple
Utah State
http://competitivefulltuition.yolasite.com/ lists some more that you can apply for, although there is no guarantee based on your stats.
What is your home state? You are probably OK for MSU but Purdue is higher rated. I’d also check at OSU too. Your GPA will help you be admitted but usually scholarships want higher standardized tests, and many are oriented toward leadership, contest/competition, or social EC’s. I would do some more digging. My son received an offer for $129K Alabama engineering scholarship, in covers everything but room, board, and transportation so seriously consider that too and we have several friends children who love it there (he is still waiting to hear back from other schools). Also Remember that scholarship deadlines can be very early so check carefully. Hopefully you will be able to sort between multiple offers and have only good choices.
Private schools with good FA are also a possibility, so look at those as well.
Alabama will give you free tuition PLUS 2500 per year…so total award is about $110,000.
What is your home state?
What do you need your net cost to be? How much will your family pay each year?
@mom2collegekids My home state is Kentucky. My parents are willing to pay a good amount but I don’t really have any numbers. Basically I would like to get it down to at least an in-state tuition type cost. My parents wouldn’t send me to Alabama. Nothing against the school my family just is not a fan haha.
You need to ask your parents how much they’ll pay. You need that info.

?
Who says that parents have to be a fan or not a fan??? There are Clemson, Kentucky, Auburn, etc, fans out there that send their kids to Alabama.
@mom2collegekids They don’t like Alabama as a school, not the sports or anything.
@pgkurtz What exactly don’t they like about it?
Do they like any of the schools listed in #3 or the pages linked to?
What criteria do your parents have for an “acceptable” school?
Do UK and Louisville have in-state merit for your stats?
@usualhopeful I mean if I really wanted to go there they would let me, but we would rather have an engineering school that has a better reputation nationally like many of the big ten schools.
@ucbalumnus We like when colleges have good internship and coop programs, and when colleges have a good reputation for engineering, more so than an Alabama or the schools listed in #3.
@“Erin’s Dad” They do but I would rather go out of state if I can find a good fit that we can afford.
I think you may be overestimating the need for prestige for engineering job placement.
Companies don’t pay a higher salary to engineers from a “more prestigious” school for the same work.
@usualhopeful I would also like to get the best engineering education possible for me. College is not about getting the minimum education for the least money that can get you a job.
